This, and you didn't miss the point as there was none. The standing room at the G is great to watch the footy from and should remain.

He did miss the point Duff, that being, standing room is being looked at to being phased out as much as possible. I have stood in standing room at the various suburban grounds since 1973, so I`ll pass on my congratulations to you as well for missing my point.
Unbelievable some of you peanuts.

So what happens to the $30mil now that the Brumby Government's out the door?

Personally, I'm against the redevelopment, anyway. It's the only part of the 'G that has ANY semblance of history or tradition (even though it was only finished in 1992). Why do we have to redo everything so quickly?

so replacing the old CRT TVs with LCDs is going to effect the tradition? refurbing the dunnies, upgrading the f&b facilities and bars and function rooms?

this is called maintenance. after 20yrs, it would be well due.

jesus, you haven't replaced your 20 yr old TV, oven, lounge suite etc. it's the same thing, just for 45000 people. and quite cheap too. it would work out at about $1 per attendee over the life of the stand so far.

if possible, drink and food outlets on level N.
I don't mind having to do that short journey, but the crap with having to go all the way to level M just to visit such facilities.
Especially when i turn my head left and look at the Ponsford Stand outlets on the middle level.

As per yodellinhank's post below - i think you need to understand exactly where the MCC extract's its revenue from... I'll give you a tip, it's not from rent paid by the AFL.

Don't confuse the MCC & the MCG Trust.

One simple guide though...
Total attendance in 09/10 was ~3.35 Million
Football attendance in 09/10 was ~2.72 Million

If the AFL isn't the major source of income for the ground when they provide over 80% of the patrons there is a MAJOR problem.

Even for the MCC, how many of their members would pay even half their fees if there was no AFL?

Hear, hear.

In 2014, when those sitting in the general public look around at a blockbuster game and admire their lovely new stand, they should cast an eye across the turf to the MCC members reserve and say thankyou to those who AREN'T there for forking out their hard-earned, year in, year out, to pay for a stand they'll never use.

That's $25 million of MCC money that has absolutely no direct benefit to MCC members, yet you won't hear MCC members complaining about it.

I'll just continue to decide on grand final morning whether I want to attend the game or stay at home and watch it on telly.

My goodness. Aren't you up yourself.

As I said earlier in the thread, there isn't room on Level N and P. They're cramped as it is, and all the room that would be food/drink outlets are corporate boxes. Won't be happening unfortunately.

so replacing the old CRT TVs with LCDs...........................

refurbing the dunnies................................

as for the TV's - please leave the CRT's - when the ump wearing navy blue under his white maggot shirt does his normal thing, i take great pleasure in hitting the CRT with my plastic beer cup - i aint sure the new fandangled LCD's will stand the force with which they are hit.

and as for the dunnies, ive been proudly pissing in the same corner of the same trough for 20 years, and i dont wanna see that tradition die.

Before the MCC spend money on up-grading stands etc, they should pull their fingers out and start properly staffing their food and drink stalls. I've been to several "blockbuster" games in the past few years and food stalls have been shut even with 60K+ crowds.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH MCC !!

also for anyone out there buying club souveniers at the G, NOT one cent goes to your club !! (that's if you buy inside or outside) so remember that next time you buy a scarf or beenie !! Get it from your club, they need your support, not ground managers (G and Etihad)

Hardly any. Most MCC Members would freely admit they are in it for the football. But what's your point?

OK, they pay fees to watch football.

They don't directly pay the AFL for these games ( indeed the AFL plays them ).

Now, either this is the greatest deal ever, or there is a requirement for them to spend their fee money on building/upgrading/maintaining the stadium.

if they don't do this to an adequate level, then the MCG trust, as ground 'owner' ( actually, trustee ), will find another ground manager...Possibly one that doesn't take a massive number of seats as part of the deal. Yes, I realise that this would be close to a political imposibility, but the possibility still exists, and it's better for all concerned for the MCC to "do it's part" pre-emptively.

Agree with what you say, but you're upset at the wrong people....Food/drink is outsourced to Spotless(?).

Licence fees mean some does ( well, goes to the AFL, who passes it on ), but not as much as the clubs would get if you bought direct.

Agree, but the MCC controls what stalls are open or closed based on predicted crowd. I would have thought 65K was a decent crowd where you should have all stalls open.

Wrong here mate, at the woods general meeting Gary Pert confirmed not one cent goes to clubs from purchases made at the G (all footy gear is licensed). Check with your club and you'll get the same answer. The G buy the gear from the AFl so any profit made from sales goes directly to them.

As someone stated earlier, I'd like to see the AFL members reserve next to the MCC and leave the GSS for the general public. You need a pass-out to get from one GA area to another ffs.

Time to shrink the MCC members reserve while they're at it as well. At least introduce a cut off deadline where seats are then released to the public.

It's bad enough that they don't attend Wallabys/Socceroos fixtures but last year they proved they won't fully support the two core sports associated with the venue.

The empty seats for the GF replay and Boxing Day, in the biggest cricket match we've had in this country for decades was damn right embarrassing considering the world wide audience.

...and spare me the we pay for it therefore we deserve it crap. Use it or lose it.

All that needs to happen is to get rid of the ramps and replace them with escalators and lifts (easier access for disabled people and those who don't want to spend 10 minutes climbing up the bloody things to the top deck!)

Bars and function rooms seem fine - but, the level 1 food and drink areas could be tidied up a bit!

the stand is in need of an upgrade, i went to the cricket last night with a mate who is a mcc member and he hadn't been in the great southern stand in at least 10 years and he was stunned by the facilities and conditions in contrast to the other stands, tiny walkways, dirty, stupidly positioned and badly designed 'bars' and no bars on N or P and toilets which are not near as plentiful and located again in those stupid walkways.
Also those bloody GIANT ramps to go up take up a huge amount of space, removing these would be able to open space for properly designed walkways with sufficient and properly positioned toilets and facilities with escalators and lifts as we see in the other 3 stands. Removing these ramps would also free up a huge amount of space on level N in particular which could end up being a well designed and easilly acessable AFL members area which is needed badly as we pay a fair bit each year for the right.

for those yearning for the days of going to the footy and sitting on crammed rotting wooden benches which smelt like piss and people blowing smoke in your face and having to wait a quarter to get a beer those days are gone, if you want them back start spending your free time inventing a time machine cos they aint coming back

Are they going to do anything about the seats? 55 million seems a bit much for just bars and AV and a couple of other little things. The Ponsford and Olympic are much roomier.
