What impact, if at all, will Eddie McGuire running channel 9 have on Rugby League coverage, promotion and cross advertising?

Although he is a staunch expanisionist of the AFL, particularly within Sydney's West, will that be a moot point with 9 surrendering the AFL rights?

On the one hand I think he is professional enough to promote 9's interests, that being NRL and not AFL, on the other hand I suspect that he, now living in Sydney, will be committed to getting Collingwood as the 2nd big followed team in Sydney and NSW. It might be a test of where his loyalties lie, with 9 or with Collingwood.

Who is Eddie Mcguire? Does he have something to do with international sport, or is he just another Aussie billionaire (Monopoly Made-it) twinging your wotsits?

Does it take that much effort to gain a following in either Sydney or Melbourne?

Nick this will have nothing to do with RL at all, if he starts by cutting RL he will be gorne so quick you could be in bed before the light is out.

Next thing you see is Eddie pumping RL on shows like Who wants to be a millionare and after that, he'll start following thje storm.

If anything, he may see how bad the Storm are treated and tell 9 to give Vic better coverage.

I don't see anything wrong with this, Eddie likes to climb trees, if he wants to get to the top, he'll have to tow the line.

Probably. One way or another he'll weave Collingwoods interests into all of it.

Thats true, but there is a conflict of interest there, I think Eddie is more of a power man than that, leading channel9 or Collingwood, what would you take?

Maybe once he sees how good NRL rates, he might do the right thing being a sports fan?

Mate - have you not been here? McGuire and COI have been synonymous over the years!! ;)

He is the next boss of Channel 9, who will televise the NRL and also a staunch AFL man. You've either been living in a cave or Mt. Isa.

Is Mt Isa worth it any more than Mt Edith?

Like I said, who's Eddie McGuire?

It's not that tuff.

he will have no effect on the nrl tellecast due to the fact beyond 2006, channel 9 have lost the rights to tellecast afl football.

so he will have no option but to tellecast the nrl.

Eddie will have zero impact of League and it's telecast, but the question is what will he do for AFL.

What can he do at Ch9 in Sydney for AFL anyway? Prob not much.

I would have thought that he wouldn't have taken the job if he couldn't boost the profile of Collingwood Australia-wide.

I can see why pie fans would be sitting back and enjoying this.

There is talk of the NRL footy show becoming more a panel based sports show. Dunno what's happening with the AFL version now that he's leaving.

Except when it comes up against friday night NRL in NSW and QLD... he'll have to do everyhting to destroy the TV ratings for the Collingwood game.

Watch this space... big conflict of interest coming.

That's what I believe and I don't see a conflict of interest .
Probably complain about how 7 , 10 and the AFL are neglecting his Pies .

.

Next year he could pose a problem for league, because 9 still have the rights, but how can he possibly over promote AFL if they are losing the rights, that would be giving a free kick to the opposition.

Being the new boy at the job he will want to be successful, and to do that you have to win the ratings, so no matter how much it will grate on him he will have to treat Rugby League well, especially after this year when thats all he's got as far as mainstream sport goes.

I think it will be interesting watching what he does, but I tell you I will be the first one looking for his e-mail address if he starts stuffing around with it.

Weekends on CH9 in Sydney are full of RL... he has to start supporting RL now... not wait til next season.

Of course he will promote RL as C9 CEO Why wouldn't he? Just because he is a passionate AFL man does not mean he wouldn't promte his self interests as he has done with collingwood over the AFL for years now.

Perhaps he just became CEO of C9 to bring the game to its knees so AFL can take over in the Northern Markets:rolleyes:

Exactly! He plans to infiltrate league ranks and bring the game down from the inside out!

Ingenious!
