"Goalsneak Paul Medhurst and youngster Brad ******** suffered injuries in the first half, but their severity was not yet known straight after the 15.10 (100) to 7.10 (52) victory.

Former Docker Medhurst hurt his leg when leading for a mark 13 minutes into the opening term and ********, 18, was knocked down close to half-time. Both did not return."

He was still contracted and did not have to agree to any trade. What makes you think he didn't want to go? Regardless, hope he discovers how to play his best football.

Medhurst was told that there would be limited opportunities if he stayed and would probably play most of the season for Claremont. He told Freo that he wanted to play for west coast, but was told there was no way that we would trade him to the eagles. After he was traded he only had nice things to say about the club, so all the best to Medhurst (even though he frustrated supporters at times while he was here).

Best of luck to Medders. Kudos to him for not slagging off the the club. I seem to recall a certain ex-docker, now Magpie vice captain, commenting how nice it was to be at a 'real' club once he was traded. Unless that was a media beat-up.

And kudos to the club for refusing to trade him across town. Never sell your soul to the devil unless Judd, Cuz or Kerr want to cross the river - then maybe we can talk. Maybe...

really hope it is nothing serious.
fingers crossed.
as much as it kills me to say it,
he made the right decision to move.
it is best for his career.
and he said it was really hard for him to move his life over there.
but what choice did he have?

One of the asst coaches - whose wife I know pretty well, and who was the one that told me this story - said that they were holidaying in Bali during trade week and quite by coincidence, staying at the same hotel as Medders. Apparently they hung out a bit, and this a/c told Medders (i) he felt that he'd got to know him better in those few days than he did in all his time at Freo, and (ii) he was the most difficult player he had ever coached! Medders apparently laughed and said, "I'm not surprised."

Then when the talk turned to needing some "sweetener" to make the Tarrant trade work, and Medders was the sugar, they began talking about the trade. Medhurst flat out said he didn't want to go, but he realised that in order to further his career and perhaps get some more opportunities that a move might be the only way to go. He was very upfront and confessed his fear and nerves about moving to Melbourne. He had hoped the Chooks might be interested just for the fact he didn't want to leave WA, although he knew (i) that Freo and WCE are unlikely to be trading partners any time again soon, (ii) that his life would become very complicated if he went to them, and (iii) he didn't particularly like them after 5 years playing for Freo. This a/c became the middle man between CC / CS and Medders, and basically convinced him that for the sake of his career, he really should agree to the trade and give it a go.

I wish the MonkeyBoy all the best. :thumbsu:
