Medhurst

taking all said into account, the role of the small forward would have to be the most unforgiving on the ground.2 goals a week is a pass, anything less a failure. pretty hard to do that every week from limited oppurtunities. not to much to ask though that they atleast chase and tackle when they havnt got the ball. milne seems to be getting better at that.

Interesting listening to Alves and Mackay on the radio, saying that Medhurst is built like a crumber but tries to play like a tall forward, and agreeing that unless he is kicking for goal he doesn't seem to have much of a footy brain - not great awareness for what's happening around him.

To be honest I was (blessedly in the end!) too busy watching my kids to watch much of the game, so I don't know if any Pies or Freo fans think there's anything in that?

Who knows but Alves is a grandpa and Mackay well he is just an idiot.

Medhurst will be a good footballer for Collingwood no doubt about it. The guy played some very good games for Fremantle but was just not going to fit into the structure the club was trying to achieve. I think the Freo supporters who are bagging him because of his attitude are a bit wrong to do so, I mean how many AFL players are arrogant?

The guy will play more better games for the club than he will bad ones and will win over the faithful Collingwood fans.

I thought Tarrant was pretty good on the weekend as well, the defensive pressure he puts on the backmen is on par with that Jeffrey puts on and when the forward line is finally all together things look very very promising.

Medhurst = Injured Tarrant...

Medhurst COULD kick 50 goals for you guys this year.

But as Kidstyler said he is an arrogent little ********.

Me and my mates ran into the Fremantle boys at the Moonee Valley races the night before the '06 grand final and Medhurst was the only one who wasnt a spoilt arrogant ***head. Had a long chat with us and was very down to earth and genuine. Unlike his stuckup 'Im a football player so Im better than you' teammates.

Some freo supporters on this thread highlight once again how badly we turn on our own, once they move or are moved.

At the end of the day Collingwood have got more out of Medhurst in round one than Fremantle got out of Farmer in round one.

Reid is a future superstar, Medhurst was just a set of steak knives... a handy set at that

I hope to God Reid is a gun and his bio certainly reads as a likely type but really it is a bit early to be proclaiming him as the Messiah. At this stage he has done as much as Morrison, Hall and Roach. We traded a very talented if erratic player for a reasonably early pick in a reputedly good draft and Medhurst. So far it seems about even but Collingwood supporters know how well Tarrant can play. If he can get him self fit and stay sound I expect there will be weeks when we say WHY. We won’t know whether Ben Reid is ma gun for a while yet. Medhurst really should be capable of immediate impact. He has been in the system long enough to be at his peak right now. I really couldn’t care less if he is a nob or not. I only care that he puts in and performs. If he does that then we could end up big winners in the trade but there are lots of ifs.

I believe - listen Magpie supporters,

that Medhurst will be very very good.

He was a really good player in the first year at Fremantle.

He lost form and wasn't dropped by Connolly for 2 years, even with so many crying for him to get dropped to find his form again.

He never got his form or confidence back fully, but with the new surroundings, it probrably will trigger off his wizardry.

How's his hair holding up ?

Best way to play on Medhurst is to drop an old lady's dressing table mirror way out on the wing near the fence...u wont see him all day.

I cant take this bloke seriously since seeing him looking at himself on the bigscreen at Subiaco with the ball 5m away.

That's probably as good a description of Medders as you'll get. His best year(s) for us was when he was a primary target in the forward line and he was awesome at FF for Claremont the year before we drafted him (kicking 80+ goals I think).

But once we tried to adapt his game to crumb off our bigger forwards he struggled. He is a good field kick when he has time to assess his options though.

Maybe he'll do better at the Pies if they use him more as a presenting target. Hopefully the trade will end up being a win for both clubs.

ive heard this for a about 3 years now,and leon still hasnt shown what it takes to be a mid-fielder,not accountable enough and cant win the hard football unfortunatly

rubbish leon is always shepharding and doing 1%ers for the team.

infact he is the opposite of unnaccountable, but it's just that he hasnt yet produced consistent results on the stats sheet.

Given he has already cemented a spot in Willi 1's and is performing credibly Id have him a long way in front of the above names. :)

If Medders kicks 50 goals this year I couldn't careless if he's arrogant, an arseh*le or any other name in the book.:thumbsu:

I'd really hope Tazza wakes up his year and starts to show some talent.

imo we didnt bargain hard enough with freo. we shouldve got someone they didnt want to give away and someone they might regret like mundy or two decent players like murphy and dodd/hayden.

malthouse wanted medhurst beacause he always played well against us

meanwhile we're stuck with kaka players like obrien in our defence who is just about the worst footy brain ive come across.

Steady on, Harry is a 2nd year player who is built like a big black Kouta

He recieving on the job training by 2 of the best defenders in the comp in Clement and Presti and coaches like Brad scott,Guy Mckenna and MM

he will a gun defender in 2-3 years
