..... in blue and yellow, keeping the bench warm. Get used that sight, I think it will become mighty familiar. as the season progresses.

Struggled to get a game with us most of last year, says alot about your list if he is expected to line up in your best 22.

And thanks for Tazza, he will go close to All Australian this year with a decent midfield that is capable of delivering it to him properly.

Very rare their is a Freo troll on this board, but welcome. How is it only see 4 live games a year...must be great...all that action

Anywho...Tarrant was in the media more than Medhurst for incredibly poor form and got fined by the club etc. Probably had a worse year overall than Medhurst did.

As for Medhurst...have you already forgotten that he was one of the best small forwards in the competition a couple years ago...twice leading goalkicker for the club, including 50 goals in a season.

Another thing...Medhurst for Tarrant wasn't the trade...it was Tarrant for Pick 8 and some steak knives...which, in the end was Medders....pretty decent give away that one. :thumbsu:

Agreed that Reid MAY be a good pick up (yet to be seen, every draft pick at the pies seem to be annointed future champs, not many live up to it though). We are not in a rebuilding phase, and dont need any young kids for a couple of years, we have plenty young guns playing out of their skin trying to break in the 22 as it is. Our premiership window is well and truly ajar.

You a walking a very fine line Mr. Docker. Consider this a warning.

I don't think you'll find any Collingwood supporter saying Steak Knives is/was an automatic best 22 player. Didak, Davis, Thomas, Buckley, Burns are all capable of playing the small forward position and are ahead of Medhurst. ATM he is fighting with Egan (injured), Cook and Dick for a spot.

Medhurst is definitely in our best 26. Not bad for a set of steakknives.
Exactly - Most Freo fans seem to be deluding themselves into the belief that the trade was based around swapping Paul Medhurst for Chris Tarrant.

I, for one, went on record before the trade was even made, when rumours of us getting Pick #8 were floating around, saying that I would trade Chris Tarrant for Pick #8 straight up.

As you say, and as we all do, Paul Medhurst was a set of steak knives - Purely an added bonus.

medhurst

Some freo joker posted a quote saying that a bag of crap will be better than medders this year and that taz will be a superstar and kick lots. Tarrant will go ok but will kick twice as many points as goals. The jury is still out on medders but here are a couple of points to consider.
1) He kicked 10 goals against brisbane in 2004 when they were in their prime on chris johnson(all aust backman)
2) He kicked 50 goals in a year. Not bad!!!

We'll just wait and see who the trade works out better for, freo. Just quietly, i hear that ben reid might be an ok player. Haha hes gonna be a gun.

It was a worthwhile trade for both clubs, as Freo are a flag contender and Taz might make the difference. We however are not, and the draft pick and Medhurst was a good deal.

Shame WCE didn't bite on a first-round pick and Matt Rosa though. :(

Re: medhurst

Freo are a little nervous because Tarrant cost'em, whereas really, he cost us nothing. It is unlikely that Medhurst will be any less effective as part of the Collingwood forward structure, which was due a makeover anyway. And if Tarrant fires so what. Freo supporters should be careful because they haven't even played in a Grand Final yet, putting aside all the media hype, their coach probably has a few question marks over his ability to 'master of puppets' a whole finals series with an inexperienced finals team, alah old mate Grant at St Kilda, who just couldn't get that extra bit out of a great list come finals time. I'm not saying he can't, just that it is probably time Freo stood and delivered because there is weight of expectation on them. They know it too, hence they were willing to gamble a proven player and top draft pick to try and find a piece of the jigsaw. Look at what happened at Geelong last year, they were suppossed to be the greatest chance of being genuine contenders since Gary Snr pulled on the boots. North Melbourne are probably in a similar position from gambling on bringing players in to bolster a list that an inexperieced coach thought was almost there. How is this for a deal people from giant foam anchor land? You worry about Tarrant and we will worry about Medhurst and the No. 8 draft pick.

Re: medhurst

Good response guys.Tarrant will be serviceable at best with Freo.Medhurst who really cost us nothing will surprise if he can get fit and slot into our gameplan.
Really anything medhurst kicks for us is just a bonus.Reid will become a gun player and in time will be very hard to match up on.Isn't he 196cm tall at 17 years of age, will be over 200cm by the time his 21 and with a beautiful kick of a ball ,and speeeeeeeed to boot he'sll be hard to stop, once he gains experience and bulks up a bit.Chris Dawes is the one to watch.196cm,big frame, beautiful mark and kick, and loves to split the packs, can't wait till he's fit.Nathan Brown will become the rock of gibraltar of the collingwood back line once he settles in,with travis playing at CHB when Dawes takes CHF next year.
In fact watch travis take games apart this year, and he'll be the gun who'll play back and forward.Brad D...ck will the live wire we have been waiting for,and wellingham with poise, iles to lend a hand, goldsac and the others coming through ,THE PIES WILL BE THE FORCE TO RECKON WITH,BE AFRAID BE VERY AFRAID YOU DETRACTORS.

Travis Cloke has looked downright scary running at the ball in pracy matches. I mean how many players can an opposition team match up on in one forward line. With that monster roaming about at HF and Rocca providing a longer option closer to goal no wonder Tarrant was traded.

Agree with all of that. Hopefully Reid will become a good player in the future, but Medhurst has the potential to be a good get. Especially so if he can kick 30 odd goals, which is Tarrant's normal output.

Re: medhurst

I have to say this, I really couldn't give a stuff about Freo's opinion, or Chris Tarrant, as long as Medhurst plays his best for us, that's all that is going to matter.

I do wish Tarrant all the luck in the world at the Dockers, but how he performs now is really nothing we have to worry about until we play them.

Yep totally agree...all i care about is medhurst doing his best, whether he is better than tarrant or not is irrelevant as he wasnt what we traded for anyway. I am still a huge fan of tarrant and I think he will do well at freo in a new atmosphere and new team and without a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders. But his performances is no longer relevant as he is no longer with us. But good luck to both Tarrant and Medhurst in 2007 and im sure they will both perform their best

he kicked 9 not 10.
but anyway that supporter is pathetic for bagging him just because he left freo.
medhurst will be good for collingwood.

the season hasnt even started, paul has done nothing yet and his many doubters have already started to attack him.
no matter what he ever does he will ALWAYS get bagged.
give the kid a chance, he has made a huge move to start over, why not let him be and see if it pays off.

There was no reason for your post to be it's own thread, so I merged it with the one you referred to.

hi all, first time post. im looking forward to seeing how medders goes for us. he looks like he has a bit of grunt in his game and as we have a few injuries and will be experimenting with the forward structure he has an excellent opportunity to make a valuable contribution. it's in his court and i wish him well.
