Even then is optimistic, there's basically no money in the state after the Metro Tunnel.

Thats irrevelant here. State wont fund the build. Almost all of it comes out of MCC debt, and funding from the AFL.

They also have no idea what to do, it needs a total rebuild but you can't just take down half the stadium,

We know they can, because theyve done it before. They did it in 88-92 when the Southern Stand was replaced with the Great Southern Stand. And they did it in 2004-06 when the rest became the Northern Stand. (and that was done without capacity dropping below 70k)

The MCC will borrow most of the funds like they have done previously. They have plenty of money. The Warne stand holds 45k, so 55k would be the capacity during the first season of works. They could play one GF elsewhere, then reopen in stages over the next season or two. Maybe 75k for the second year GF, then 105k sometime in season 3 of the rebuild.

The GSS was pretty much done in 16 months between the 1990 GF in October and the 1992 Cricket WC in Feb 1992. Incredible.

With record crowds for the last India test and The Ashes still going strong, the window for renovations at the G is shrinking outside of footy season dramatically, unless if someone like Bangladesh or the West Indies were the Boxing Day opponent as they would get lower crowds. Even then, I'd doubt Cricket Australia would be happy with over 40k seats wiped out for their showcase Test of the summer

Three year window is long enough between Ashes 2029/30 and India 2032/33. Even at 55k, it would still be the biggest cricket ground in the land end plenty for any other opponent.

You would knockdown the stand the day after the 2030 GF. Plenty of time.

Don’t think anyone knows but with the nfl coming to town will they have to redovelop the change rooms, wonder if the rooms in the Shane Warne Stand might get some love aswell….

I suspect one team will get the current change rooms and the other the Shane Warne Stand changerooms.

Offence in the 'home' room and Defence in the 'away' room or something like that?

Not sure if this has been covered but when i was at the Women's Ashes match I noticed the stand names have been replaced with raised letters and lighting around/behind them. Looks cool, tho if you are looking at the them at any angle you can't really read them.
