Great draft selection.

Will dominate the ruck for the next decade, and will kick a large number of goals as well.

Another wonderful decision by the Melbourne staff.

What where the other "wonderful decisions"? Consider the fact you finished 14th, 16th, 16th in the last 3 seasons before answering

We have not only drafted well early, when the obvious selections were there to be made, such as the Jack Watts selection, but we have also drafted well later on, securing players such as Colin Garland.

As for Carlton, fancy picking Kane Lucas. All he will do is de-skill your midfield brigade.

Just goes to show Carlton struggle to recruit when the decisions aren't made for them, unlike Melbourne, who can pick well both early and later on.

cannons my good man, must you take the Grandmaster_B approach to Bay 13?

Watts should not have gone in top 10, poor decision right there. What has Kane Lucas got to do with your "wonderful decision making"? Not taking Lucas @ 11 is one example of your poor decision making IMO

So when did you start your job at the MFC recruiting dept?, as you are obviously so privvy to inside information.

Mate, he (was) 17, was doing his VCE and was not ready to go last year. I love it how he is written off after 3 games. When he has played a season of footy and failed - then go for it.

And being a Carlton supporter entitles you to exactly squat. The worst team of the last 10 years by a country mile, both on and off the field.

Don't worry mate, they are just taking the opportunity to have a go at Watts whilst they can, as everyone knows he will be a leading KPF in the coming years.

Buddy Franklin showed something in his first year and he was not ready, kicked 3 in his 2nd or 3rd game. Watts showed nothing you are just offering excuses for a poor selection.

Watts wont be considered a leading KPF while Buddy,Roughy,Tomahawk,Hendolenko, Josh Kennedy,Jesse White are around.

Did Pavlich, Brown or Riewoldt set the world on fire in their first 3 games?

Didn't think so.

Pretty sure Riewoldt was good pretty much straight away as was Pavlich not so sure about Brown. So that Makes Riewoldt, Pav & buddy who have shown that Watts has a long way to go.

Incorrect.

Riewoldt looked like an absolute dead set ******* his first season. I remember going to a match and hearing Saints supporters sledging his ******* looking ability. Just shows what a few years into ya does doesn't it? He was pick 1 for a reason, as was Watts.

Media etc always sledge Jonno Brown about his first few games cause he looked so awkward, and Brown finds it hilarious cause he knows he looked awkward as well. Watts has PLENTY of work to do yes, but he was pick 1 for a reason and will soon show why

Back to Big Gawn..... 208 cm and still apparently growing, and the youngest player in the draft. Seriously what was that kid fed as a youngster. A bit of a gamble but a great one by the MFC. Cant wait to see the dude

Don't ya love it how any Melbourne thread somehow gets on to Watts bagging? Was funny for a while, but jesus christ.

He won the rising star the first year he played which was 2002.

Thank you for proving that Melbourne fans no nothing about footy.

Mate, your post is too good to be true. He was taken with pick 1 of the 2000 national draft, played 6 games in 2001 for 2 goals 2 behinds, and won the rising star in 2002, his second season.

I wouldn't expect you to remember that far back though champ, you probably won't born yet!

Does every thread have to digress into a Jack Watts discussion?

Seriously, all of your arguments for/against are exactly the same as the 10,000 other threads on Watts. Get a life.

Anyways, just how big is Gawn going to get? Bigger than Sandilands?

Fitzpatrick is a good pick up too, can rotate with Gawn in the ruck plus hes pretty mobile and can get around the ground. Was rated as a first round pick earlier this year. Great draft by Melbourne.

Watts is the best young player in the league, and as a result, he will always end up being a talking point.

On Gawn, I don't know, but he is a massive individual, and could well end up bigger than Sandilands. Further, he is a very athletic player who takes a good grab, which is made better by the fact there will rarely be an occasion where he doesn't get first hands to the ball.

Fitzpatrick is also pretty exciting, but he has a long way to go.

And you've got to laugh at the description of Hawkins, Henderson, White and Kennedy as "leading KPFs" as well... honestly!

Especially Henderson, who's got 3 goals in his first 15 games for God's sake! Phark me, he's got some strange notions about KPFs.

And THEN, Gibba caps off the unintentional hilarity by actually trying to cast aspersions on OUR football knowledge!

The stupidity meter buried the needle during that Gibbanator post...

Apparently grew 8cm this year to get to 208, and may still be growing. Sandilands is either listed at 211 or 213, so he'll need another year like he's just had to go past him.... not impossible I guess.

Since it's bay 13 though, he'll be 10 times the player Sandilands is and WTF were West Coast thinking in the draft last night? :p
