Melbourne vs West Coast

As a biased Melbourne supporter I say West Coast by at least 50 points.

Showing your bias there. Realistically it will be over 100. The only guys over 190cm we are likely to have are Frawley, Spencer, Dunn, Howe & Pedersen. I don't see McDonald getting up and Fitzpatrick is borderline. This will get very very ugly.

I can't see Melbourne kicking more than 8 goals. West coast by 10 goals +

I'm worried one of the West Coast forwards will kick more goals than Melbourne in total.

That said West Coast look to be the strange case of a good team who are still susceptible in the midfield. As good as Priddis, Masten, Shuey, Selwood and co are to my mind they still aren't a true top 4 midfield.

My point is if Vince, Jones, Cross, Tyson and co can nullify West Coast's advantage in the midfield then our backline stands a chance and the result will be respectable. If West Coast roll over us in the midfield then it's clear they have an advantage at either end and the result could be ugly.

.

They aren't even a pretend top 4 midfield - probably not top 8 either. The only time our midfield looks top notch is when NN puts it on a silver platter for them

Mind you our intensity was good

Any wins we generally have are on the back of a high quality defence, forward line and ruck division - the midfield just need to try and not get beat too bad

They are "good"?

I think Simpson would be happy if we stick the gameplan out for the whole game this week, and with our talent up forward and in defence that should be enough to get the win. Last quarter against the Dogs was very scrappy, and probably the first half of Q1 as well- a few players caught out of position and long bombs to nowhere, top teams will hurt us when we do that.

Getting out the hundreds and thousands sandwiches and going into party time (TM) is all well and good, but with a new gameplan sticking to that as much as possible should be the goal, get the right habits into the players before we play the top 4 sides. We beat the Bulldogs by 70 points at home last year- beating up lower teams on your home deck doesn't really mean anything. That being said, our intensity was first class.

I almost spit my diet coke on my laptop when I saw melbourne $8 on betfair, at home to west coast

Now reading this thread and all the overconfidence in the eagles has convinced me even more

This is a full bank + mortgage your house job.. A once in a lifetime opportunity to octuple (look it up) your money. To pay for your kids university education, your car loan, your elderly parents who never saved and now drain your bank account like a hole in a boat. Lump on

I hope the team aren't as confident as the posters on here. If we play at our best, we'll win comfortably, if we don't take the game seriously, we could get into trouble. Melbourne need to apply a lot of pressure and not give up. Take a leaf out of the GWS and GC clubs - don't worry about the results, just do your job as best you can.

Had Melbourne put in a better showing against the Saints I probably would have tipped them, can see the WC talls being the difference though like Riewoldt was for the Saints last week. West Coast have the edge in the midfield (much of that edge is down to the respective ruck divisions) and comfortably superior bookends, should win by 5+ goals.

Not yet sold on West Coast's skills but I expect them to smash the Dees in contested footy.

Melbourne will win. They will have learned some lessons from last week, are playing on the G where they perform best, and are unlikely to have quite as many talls missing from the team as last week. (was legitimately catastrophic by half time with all of Clark, Dawes, Hogan, Jamar, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, MacDonald being out of action).

Melbourne will definitely win the midfield battle, they just need to kick straight and J Watts will be BOG for us two weeks running.

Hasn't been a massive surge in liquidity at Betfair yet.

You either havn't done it or your house is a rolled up newspaper.

My money is on the latter. I hear Sportsbet is giving good odds on newspaper too. Put your house on it.
