Just bought a season reserved seat for the first time in a while. How does it work now? My number of years as a member hasn’t updated yet and all I’ve got is a receipt email.

Tbf I just did it but it feels like something should’ve happened.

Nothing happens yet, usually there's a merch pack at some point, but ticketing is all digital these days, so there's no membership card anymore. Tickets are issued a few days prior to each game and they show up in the Freo app.

Expect a change to digital tickets too. For the W season they had these new ones that are animated, so you can’t forward your ticket via screenshot. Have to think they’ll do the same for the men’s season.

Last season I was forever screenshotting and forwarding my son’s ticket to him because I was getting them through the app and he is a teenager barely capable of organising getting punched in the face in a Meekatharra pub.

It'll be fine, unless they decide to put an attendant on every self scan machine this won't do shit


Might affect the full strength areas though, I assume they'll animate those too, used to be able to share one with the lads so they can come up

EDIT: Done some research, it may be this Ticketmaster "Safetix" technology, I'm not sure how the Government would allow such an anti-consumer method here in Australia, hopefully it doesn't eventuate as reception is ass in a big crowd, I always screenshot my tix for any sports event or festival I attend

Could it be exclusive to AFLW? I definitely remember a moving barcode being used on my ticket at one point. But I only went to one AFLW game this season and I downloaded those tickets to my wallet and they didn't have a barcode on them and scanned via NFC.

I gave my seats up at the end of the 2020 season. Didn't get there through Covid rules and find the time commitment a challenge. There are a few other things I find off putting, however, the main factor for me was the ability to get a seat anytime I wanted to attend.

I have barely got there due to work and finding myself enjoying gardening with the footy in the background... and sometimes not at all if we are playing like horse shite.

Not sure what it would take to get me back now.

Just add it to Apple Pay or equivalent before you go and you don’t need reception.

The things I was reading say that it doesn't work with that, apparently the ticket goes dead when added to Wallet/Pay

Hopefully not the case

Still gonna make it a pain to have to manually transfer tickets thru ticketmaster account now, I did what most people do which is just screenshot the tickets to mates, we don't all rock up at the same time to games as we come from different places so can't just scan everyone in off my phone


It's just such an anti-consumer method hidden under a thinly veiled message of "protecting customers from losing their tickets" when in reality they are just making it harder to sell/pass on your tix

if you can access you tickets and obviously know your friends phone number you have everything you need to transfer them - by screenshotting you are adding complications that aren’t required! Simply open ticket in Freo app, and transfer to their phone number. Done.

So much easier than when we had cards and needed to physically get them to someone else. I meet friends at the game too, so 5 years ago if someone got sick it was much harder to use their ticket for another friend.

As I understand it, you have to then create an account and login to access it


Just from some preliminary research that seems true, then you have to have an active connection to allow the ticket to refresh


The info I found was that it doesn't work with apple pay or Google wallet as the ticket then freezes

Tics work fine in google wallet, been putting them in there for a couple of years no problem.

I’m pretty sure I downloaded my AFLW tickets to Apple wallet and, although the animation wasn’t there, the ticket worked just fine.

There will be plenty of "Animation" at the gates at the first game if this thing comes in!

They weren't safetix last year (I was screenshotting and it worked last year)

But yeah it might work if it worked with the AFLW games (which apparently implemented safetix), the Reddit posts discussing issues may have it wrong
