received the membership packs today - how many of those gym towels (or maybe they are thick wash cloths) are going to end up in a landfill? maybe a cap would have been better?

Hey, I'm up in Chicago but have family down in Dallas/Austin. Welcome to BF! When Freo play in four straight Grand Finals from 2025-2028, you, me, and 13then7 should get together and watch one. :)
Cool! I have friends at the Old Town School of Folk Music + I went through Northwestern University's Museum Professional Certificate program.

Welcome JeffreyCC! What is your Freo supporting origin story?
First, I have zero ties to Australia, outside of a teenage crush on Olivia Newton John. Last year was my first year watching footy on youtube tv. I do remember when ESPN televised games decades ago. However I did not know any history of the sport.
So, I watched a lot of games and read quite a few footy books last year. I ended up with clubs in three categories- like, dislike and don't care either way. So why Freo?
1. I did not want to be a bandwagon rider or follow a big club with loads of history.
2. I want to be a part of that first premiership.
3. Purple is cool.
4. I like that Dockers is a tribute to the dock workers. Also I spend vacation time in Maine and Washington state. So, if you put an anchor on a logo (Seattle Kraken) I am pretty much hooked.
5. I like the the indigenous outreach & Walyalup.
6. The Freo website has pdf downloads of year books, annuals and magazines. A good way to learn about club history.
7. Membership pack for International members- only a few clubs do this and it makes a overseas fan feel a part of it all.
8. Optus Stadium- Would love to go to a game there. + the Nicky Winmar statue.
9. I also have a soft spot for St. Kilda and their long suffering fans. I have a strong dislike for Collingwood, especially after reading "Black and Proud".

Yeah, you will not find similar sentiments around these parts. There is a fair dislike of them amongst Freo fans.

Please elaborate

Saints fans have not exactly conducted themselves well towards us over the years. It was particularly bad for a few years after Ross Lyon left them to come here. Some of the tension has sizzled out over the years but there is still some disdain from a lot of fans on our side.

Are there any clubs Freo fans have a good relationship with?

Most other teams if we are being honest. The ones that get the most hate from us are West Coast (obviously), Carlton, and St. Kilda. Over the last 10-15 years there have been periods where you could add Geelong and North Melbourne to the list as well but not so much these days. Individual fans have teams that they don't like for whatever reason as well but that is for their own personal reasons.

In reality the only constant dislike from our side is for West Coast. All hatred for other teams dies down eventually.

Thanks so much much for the reply. I always find it interesting the “journey” non Australian people take in finding the purple. I shared your attraction to Olivia ( I was 15 when Grease movie came out and she wore all leather……er…..sorry…lost focus there for a minute 😜).
I‘ve been to the USA a couple of times and enjoyed it immensely, took in a NHL and baseball game). Hopefully we can meet together with all Freo Big Footy posters outside the MCG after Freo win the flag and all celebrate together!
