Pat McGinnty will have surgery today after being shirt fronted by the Collingwood captain last night.

McGinnty was contesting the ball along the boundary and was actually running outside the field of play with a Collingwood player pursuing, Maxwell who came in from the opposite direct totally ignored the ball in order to shirt front the 19 yr old in his only his second NAB game.

Will be interesting to see if it is considered as charging and dangerous play considering the injury suffered.

Poor form:thumbsdown:

It say Beau Waters had of done something similar to Sidebottom the Pie Army lynch mob would be half way across the Nullabor by now and the match review pannel would have suspended him for a the season.

Maxwell................your a first rate tosser.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

You have got to be kidding! Why not put skirts on the players and get it over and done with?

I'm sorry to see a report about the lads injury but that hit was fair and square.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

So it's okay if Beau Waters does it? Pull your head in, it was a legal hip and shoulder, the ball was in 5 metres of the player (probably about 1 metre) and the main contact was to the chest. Go watch ten pin bowling instead of watching a mans game.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

Really gutted for Paddy :(

The bump was fair, but please Maxwell is one of the toughest captain because he can take out a 19 year old kid, who is half his size.

McGinnity is 95cm tall, wow that must be some kind of record :p

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

what was wrong with a legal hip and shoulder. I thought it was great to see a good legal bump as it is something that has gone missing over the last few years it is unfortunate that the player broke his jaw but injuries come with the territory

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

I'm not aware of the rule which says you can't hit players at full speed because they are a rookie and its a NAB cup. If you're on the field, you're fair game.

Maxwell doesn't get any bonus tough points for going after a rookie, but it was within rules and if McGinnity is going to play AFL football he's going to need to learn that hits likes that happen.

Fair bump I thought.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

If his jaw was broken, how can that not be head-high contact and therefore reportable ?

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

Head high "shirt fronts" are actually not allowed. It is not hard, it is against the rules. If he raised his elbow during the action, he may be in trouble. But even if he is suspended, it will only be for a NAB cup game anyway though

Fair? Couldn't have been if the jaw was broken. It was clearly high and should have been a free kick to West Coast.

Reportable? According to the current interpretation by the match review panel, probably.

But as supporters, we seem to reserve the right to see our players crunch an opposition player out of the game, fair or not.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

Players like McGinnity (i.e. 19 yr olds that have barely played a game) are the only people he'll have a go at. I can only presume (didn't see the incident) it was a typically unnessecary bump from the wannabe tough man.

Look, I'm really disappointed that one of own kids will end up missing a lot of games.

All, I was saying is lets judge Maxwell's overall toughness against guys with the same level of experience.

Again, the bump was fair and legal.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

Perfect hip and shoulder.

Good introduction to AFL football for the young lad.

It's sad that the guy was injuried but you'll never see a better legal bump.

You're only just jealous cos your blokes couldn't get in the game:D
Seriously, the hit reminds me of the Giansiracusa one against St. Kilda. Can't remember what the result was there in terms of tribunal but let's hope a clean hit like that doesn't get punished.

Re: Maxwell's shirt front breaks Eagles jaw

As a traditionalist; the bump was an absolute beauty, fair and square in the chest with incidental contact to the head. Unfortunately the youngster ended up with a broken jaw.

Based on the last few years, with the AFL making the head a "no go" zone, I think Maxwell might be in a little strife.

I don't agree with it, but if they are to maintain a consistent stance on this issue, I think he'll be outed for a number of weeks. 3 is my prediction.

They need to set the standard NOW. Either approve of the fair and square bump showing leniency towards incidental contact, (this is what I'd like to see accross the board) or suspend Nick and set a consistent standard that will be applied for the whole season.

I think he led by example last night, and will be a very good Captain for the Pies for many years to come.
