Competition Merger Of The Week 3: St Kilda and Fremantle

Ok so I thought I would think outside the square kind like what Smeagle does all the time , I havent gone for the Generic names like everyone else, but made an original design.
How I came up with this concept:
Name: So I started off looking at both logos and brain storming, then it hit me St. Kilda and Fremantle are both beaches.. and what do beaches have? Lifesavers! After I had come to the decision of the club name I then looked at making the logo.
Logo: I looked at the Freo logo but I couldnt Use the anchor for obvious reasons, so I decided to redraw the 'freo man' with his arms crossed insted (it took so long to get it right). After I was happy with that I drew a 'Surf Lifesaver' cap on his head in place of the original cap. At this stage I was satisfide with the amount of Freo in the logo and turned my atention to the Saints. I went for the shape of the saints logo with the banner on the bottom, I changed the colours around and shortened the shield. And there you have it, thats how I got to my logo. I belive there is good balance representing both clubs.
Colours: So when I was deciding what colours to use, I had to use a nice balance and not be to dominant with 1 colour. I fet red a green clash to much and dont work well so I opted for the purple of freo. The red and white are mutual colours so this made colour selection a bit easier. I have used the red, white and purple of freo and the red, black and white of The saints.
Home Kit: First thing you notice is the guernsey is similar to the home saints gurnsey, but what you might not notice is the back, which is based on an older version of the freo home guernsey and has a rounded bow in place of the anchor. This design has also retained the white trim of the St. Kilda kit. The socks are the same as the current freo socks but the black is replacing the red and the red is replacing the green. Shorts ar nice, simple and basic.
Away Kit: So the 1st guernsey design looks a lot like freo so I decided to make this 1 as freo as i could. But this was very due to the fact I had to drop the anchor. If i droped the anchor on the curent design it would look to much like St. Kilda so I went digging through the history books and found the original freo Jumper (was used as a heritage back in 03 or 04 if I remember correctly). It was hard to create this design and keep it balanced at the same time. The original design was 3 thin V's on a plain white canvas with red trim. I inverted the colours and added some purple to balance it out and to also keep it current. The socks are the same as the Saints home socks but purple has replaced the Black. Shrts are a traditional white.

Not a fan of the away jumper, and the monogram on the back is WAY! to big.

It's a bit too much St. Kilda, which would be alright if it was based in fremantle but if you're going to do that you might as well just remove fremantle from the competition

To much going on in the guernsey. You removed the anchor from the logo which is good, making it the Fremantle Saints. But why is ther an anchor on the away kit? It doesnt make sense. Also the purple looks to blue, if you used the colour match tool on photoshop on the freo logo it comes out like this, you need to get a pic of a live action shot and colour match it. Freo use a lighter purple on their actual kit, rather than the purple on the logo. Pretty nice design though.

Hate to be politically correct LiverpoolRed, but it's St Kilda not Saint Kilda.
For those that care, there was never a Saint called Kilda - the prefix from the original Scottish town name could have been derived from many medieval words/terms.

I may or may not be going away during the time that this comp is open, and I would like some prior confirmation if that is THE final closing time. Last time this happened, it was cut back down due to popular demand, and I was left high and dry. If it stays as is, I will be able to complete my designs when I get back.
Fair enough, I was a bit worried about that. I originally had it without the anchor but it seemed too much like St.Kilda. Also, I used the purple from footyjumpers.com, not from the logo. They use a darker purple these days but I chose the lighter shade to have a better contrast with the black.

Yeah No probs mate, I just tock some colour swabs in photoshop to show you what I mean, see how the logo is completle different? Even the green in the logo is to pale.
Well one's a flat image with solid colours while the other is printed, 3 dimensional and will have lighting effecting it so they're bound to be different. As long as I've used a fairly similar purple I'm not too worried.

I used I wider pixel range on the colour match so I could get the midian colour.

but St. is an abriviation for saint thats why the '.' is there (on the logo)
Also Ir didnt look so great ar just St. Kilda

Jeez, all this because its a dark shade of purple. Its Lee's choice about what colour he wants to use on his desgin Liverpool, know need to make a fuss about it.

Have a sook you spaz, just trying to give him a hand. Its ok for Smeagle to tell me I should have used ST. in place of Saint. But its not ok for me to point out something that I think looks wrong.
