Scratch that I thought there was just a parry system, which it is. But on further investigation works quite well.

The game's core mechanics are good, the early plot seems laughable.

All in all I'd expect this to be getting 7.5-8.0/10s around the place

The games biggest problem for mine is that is is being released inbetween the two biggest heavy hitters in the genre (GOW & DMC).
My biggest problem is its shit, 5 at best.

Totally agree. It's pretty enjoyable slashing stuff and if you can parry, it's pretty satisfying. I love the series so I will probably get it. Good to have something different sometimes. The boss battle was insanely hard however!

I've gone back and played again on normal. I quite like the parry system now, that boss is a good example for it. You can't just go nuts on him, you have to wait until he attacks you, you parry and launch straight into a counter attack if you time it sweet enough. During the second stage of the boss fight he didn't lay a scratch on me.

Because instead of something new, something fresh, something different, we get the 5th installment of another series.

I mean, yeah 'yay' it's another MGS, like we didn't know one of them was coming anyway. Instead they tease us what seems like a new IP and an absolutely balls out crazy one at that, then we're likely to learn it's just a sequel to a different series. It's underwhelming and disappointing.

How can it be at all underwhelming if there's been clues to it being MGS5 since the first trailer

Because the game didn't have to be MGS5...

I'm not saying I don't want an MGS...which I know a lot of people are reading.

I'm saying I don't want THIS to be MGSV.

But the Metal Gear Series is hardly repetitive. They tend to introduce mechanics into each one so they feel different.

MGS: was the 2D games in 3D

MGS2: advanced the AI, added first person aiming

MGS3: The complete change of setting coupled with the camo mechanic

MGS4: The refined camo mechanic removing the constant swapping of costumes. Warzone dynamic, etc

It is one of the few series that refuses to stay stagnant.

So you'd like this game more, even if it was exactly the same, if it didn't have a big name title? HBK619

That's some serious video game hipsterism.

No, the fact that it has to stick by MGS lore and not break free from that, that's what I don't want and why the game looked awesome.

It was something crazy, abstract and different and not overtly in the MGS universe. Now it'll just slot into the MGS world.

I'm surprised so many find it hard to grasp a simple concept, although I understand PAdman not getting it...

I'm not saying anything about MGS and what it does as a series, gameplay wise or story wise. What I am after, is something with new characters, new concepts, new designs. Something fresh, not another MGS, from what has been shown.
