Brisbane forward Michael Close turns his attention to getting back from season-ending knee injury

MICHAEL Close is staying out of the blame game that has erupted after his season-ending knee injury.

The Lions forward says he is too determined to make a successful comeback from knee reconstruction surgery to get angry about who or what is responsible for the ACL injury that destroyed his campaign.

The AFL Players Association and Close’s management have wasted no time investigating whether the artificial turf next to the boundary line and in front of the interchange area at Etihad Stadium played a role in the injury sustained in the loss to North Melbourne on Sunday.

Nice pad, man when I think of the places I in lived/stayed/crashed at their age their place would have been a palace. Imagine taking a lady back to a place like that!

"Why have you got two other guys sitting on your couch?!?!?"

Lions' Michael Close compensation claim would likely be AFL first

If the Brisbane Lions make a successful compensation claim over Michael Close's season-ending injury it would likely be the first of its kind.

An investigation into whether the stadium's astroturf surface contributed to the emerging forward falling on the boundary and suffering an ACL injury during his side's match against North Melbourne is continuing.

The Lions are considering seeking compensation from the stadium and the AFL for the costs of the injury and upgrading a rookie-listed player if the surface is found to be at fault.

Surface not to blame for Close injury: report

ETIHAD Stadium says an AFL report has absolved the venue of any blame for the season-ending knee injury suffered by Brisbane Lions' big man Michael Close.

Close damaged his anterior cruciate ligament when he slid towards an apparently uneven patch of synthetic turf near the interchange gates during last Sunday's loss to North Melbourne.

But in a statement released on Friday, the stadium's CEO Paul Sargeant said a commissioned report had "overwhelmingly vindicated the presentation and safety of the venue’s playing surface".

That's a shock...

Hope he is recovering well.

Just a thought (oops there it is).

Id like to see close play down back next season. Given the improvement of mcstay and hopefully freeman can get on the park and if we can snag dixon or hawkins that shoukd be plenty. Im not sold on Closes footballing nouse and maybe a year or 2 being led to the ball could help. He is a good size and can/could run all day so could be worth the punt.

Whichever end McStay and Close play next year will depend on who we pick up over the off season. Would be tough for them to get a go in the backline with Clarke, Andrews and Gardiner more likely and possibly Merrett.

Being a young tall coming off an ACL I won't be expecting too much from Close next year.

Interested to get pols thought as to whether we could get away with Close as our second ruck next year.

Martin thrives with getting the vast majority of time there and I think Mick could at least do enough to compete and provide an option with his endurance going the other way.

Freeman, Close & kid would be a big improvement over our forward structure this year and better than a resting ruck

Maybe. Freeman has shown a hell of a lot on the lead the last 2 weeks and has kicked some impressive goals. Ive never rated closes kicking action and doesnt look natural at it one bit. I personally would like to see close at CHB next year.

IMO we really should develop Close into a CHB. The more I think about it, the better I feel. His attributes suit the role immensely.

Be tough for him to get in front of Andrews and Clarke.

Starting to come round to the idea of him being CHB with us getting Schache. However, it would leave us way too tall down back.

FB: Merret, Clarke, Harwood/Beams
CHB Close, Andrews, Papparone

Tall and slow really.
