Mick Malthouse demands Sydney help end now

Both Tippett and Franklin chose Sydney, what's the club supposed to say. No?
I don't think anyone's blaming the swans, they're just maximising the hand they've been dealt. It's the farce of a situation created by the AFL that's ruffled feathers.
Is it true that if the Hawks were to have matched the buddy offer, they would have had to match the cola part as well?
You can't have free agency without a firm salary cap.
Also,I asked this earlier, and nobody has answered, what other professional sporting leagues have a COLA or equivalent?

His name is Lin Jong and the fact that you do not even know how to spell his name is more than likely the reason he is not an ambassador, not the fact he plays for the Dogs.

Ambassadors have to be recognizable personalities who can grow the game - clearly Lin 'Chong' is not recognizeable enough.
Or play for swans

Jong adds just as much to the league as goodes in my eyes ...imagine his family and people from his area would be watching

Seriously outside a few schools in Sydney what has Adam goodes done for the league outside of that ?

We haven't seen a wealth of indigenous NSW boys get recruited because of adam goodes

I like Adam goodes ...awesome player ...but ambassador payments are a joke

Why doesn't Gia get an ambassador payment ...he's from the heartland of Italian suburbs in Melbourne at Footscray.

The ambassador payment is structured to favour swans gws and GCS ....geez what a surprise

The afl should publish who gets this money and from where

I bet my last dollar it's mostly from those 3 clubs ....funny that

What's funny

Is swans fans and their leaders like Richard collis say it makes no difference

Makes no difference ....well let's flipping remove it and see how you go ?

C'mon swans .....you say makes no difference to your sucesss....fine remove it then...?

That stops sorry crushes every post in this whole thread by swans fans.........

We've seen when it was removed from the Lions ...what have we seen .....

SMS would be screwed without it ....with it they are a powerhouse .....

It's that bloody simple .....

I saw the lions play last week and man they are in trouble street ...they have made the finals once since it was removed .....that's once in 10 years ...

That's kind of the point though isn't it. They appear to be more than capable of attracting and retaining talent from other states... so why the need for an advantage?
Its been going on for years, but the realisation has only just dawned on many people, including Malthouse, it seems.

Argument seems to turn on how much it is due to CoLA, and how much is due to very smart recruiting.

Swans recruiting staff has been arguably the best in the league for some years (probably neck and neck with Geelong), but a lot of people only noticed once we won in 2012 with a list no-one rated as premiership material.

I guess it's only human nature that people then started turning around and saying "hang on, what have we agreed to?" and blaming it all on CoLA, but my contention is there have been other factors at play.

Until 2012, we really did fly under the radar. (For instance, even after winning in 05 and narrowly losing in 06, it's incredible how few of the AFL captains rated us in the annual captains' poll, even though we kept making finals every year bar one. They of all people should have known better.) But all that time we'd been building our list.

C'mon we all know why buddy went to swans ......it was his nightlife in Melbourne that lead him to things he rather forget ....everyone knows it, it's common knowledge what his issue

Stars with d ends with s ...figure it out
Dim Sims?

Lived in Perth for three years. Used to turn on the TV and guess who was in half the ads ........ Chris Judd. Not much work like that or for Visy for Swans players.
Yup and the afl canned it

Let's see how swans go without it

Like my last post on it .....if swans think it makes no difference then let's remove it

It defeats the very agreement they make for having it .......

If it's no advantage ....then let's remove it .....see that's where the swans apathetic argument would got shot down in flames

Ok let's give a family an 20,000 dollars to live off each year

Would that family be better off? Would they be able to do more nice things? Like go on a holiday ..or whatever

So swans fans saying getting an extra million in their cap space makes no difference ....."Turn it Up"

You don't seem to have grasped that the AFL is removing it.

Do try to keep up.

Swans are footy public enemy #1. There will never be a rational debate about COLA.

If you think about it sensibly, the AFL has poured north of $100m into 2 new franchises, the return on their investment comes via media rights payments.
The extra money the AFL makes from media rights payments benefits ALL clubs.
People forget, the VFL was broke and so was every Victorian team.
The salary cap issue is blown massively out of proportion.

How does it benefit the club? It benefits the players by getting more money .....

The salary cap is blown out of proportion you say ....let's remove tomorrow and see how you go ?

The. I groin clubs yes we're struggling but they we're not broke .....that's overplaying it

We have won 2 flags with a list largely made up of rejected players and nosebleed draft picks so I'm sure we'll manage just fine even if they take away COLA tomorrow.

Countless times here, it has been explained how Sydney managed their list in order to afford Tippett and Franklin, and it had nothing to do with the CoLA.

You're a mod. You'd know your way round this site. Go read them yourself.

(Of course, don't ever let actual mathematics get in the way of your argument.)

Can't believe some swans supporters actually believe this.

Just because there was no Franklin and Tippett in 2012 doesn't mean you didn't have any extra million.

Sure players left to free up the cash for the new recruits, but this was done in an environment where Sydney had an extra million.

So what is everyone going to say in 10 years time when we still have Franklin on the books and we win a few more premierships? Ohhh no, the rent assistance is too much of an advantage! Swans should have 50% salary cap compared to everyone else.

**** off

What about the same as everyone else. No extra assistance?

The last five years I've lived in Mosman and Woollahra - I know more than anyone that living on a low AFL wage is easy, and Sydney is the best place to live in Australia for a male in their 20s.

List manage

Yup a million bucks a year makes it far easier to manage your list

I mean seriously .......what croc of manure

Yes you get rejected players because you poach them because you have a million bucks extra .....that's 1 million

Can you spell million

Here .....m.i.l.l.i.o.n

You can see why they need a bit extra money though what player in his right mind would want to leave Victoria and head up to Sydney if you were offered the same amount you would pick the Victorian team every time
How many of the Victorian kids come back?

Hannebery? Rohan? Malceski? Sam Reid? Luke Parker? Alex Johnson? Nick Smith? Adam Goodes!? O'Keefe?

Not to mention all those who moved up there like Josh Kennedy, Rhyce Shaw, Jeremy Laidler, Teddy Richards. Even Tommy Walsh who came half way across the world to settle in Melbourne was then super keen to get to Sydney.

Of course every kid wants to stay in the state they are from but you rarely see any of them wanting to come back home.

The two I can remember leaving Sydney of late are Lewis Johnstone at Adel who has so far not being AFL standard and Pat Veszpremi who wasn't up to it.

Question

Very simple to answer

What have the Brisbane lions achieved since their salary cap concession was removed?

What kind of nonsensical crap is that? How do you connect cola to recruiting restrictions? Did you consider that maybe Sydney really is that good at retaining their players?
No.

Isn't that why you need a COLA?

No.

Isn't that why you need a COLA?
Really? We've recruited a bunch of your players and taken them to premierships and will do so again this year. Good luck with your sour grapes, may the many successes of the hawks losing another preliminary final help you sleep at night, and the sight of the swans winning another premiership fill you with happiness.
