Yeah probably close to the best side I've seen in the EDFL. The Cora Lynn side they beat in the GF were a very good side themselves.

Baysixer have you seen much of both leagues? How do they compare?

great effort on the weekend to liam {the nose picker} durkin kicking 4 goals and getin best look out ones liam wants a call up
It would be a sad day if Liam Durkin gets a senior of football. Im sure he will be showered first and dressed waiting for Brett to read out the sides. Im sure the Thorpdale football club would not be stupid enough to put your small child like frame up against grown men. Best stay in the ressies where you can use your pace out VERY wide on the wings. Also after all the rubbish you wrote about the East before the start of the season it would probibly best for your own safety to sit this one out.

Unfortunately, Surks, Baysixer is still a teenager from spud country that thinks he is at Trafalgar. Hard to say if he has seen a game of footy that has not involved Thorpdale.

Not a bad player but wouldn't pick him as the sort of guy to kick 8.

What is the standard of footy like in Mid Gippsland plugger? How would the Newborough side that made the GF go against the Nilma side that won the flag when you were there?
Nilma would probably have won by 15 goals. A rare team was the Nilma side of '09.

It is fair to say that the standard is quite a bit lower than EDFL. An example of that would be when Darnum played Traf in a practice match (I know, it is only a practice match) in 2008. Pretty sure we won by about 8 goals (with some of our recruits not playing either). We went on to win 4 games that year from memory and Traf played finals, possibly the big dance won by Yinnar - cant remember.

When I went to Darnum in '95 I would have put it the other way around. Seemed easier to get a kick in the EDFL and some of the struggling clubs were horrendous. Obviously clubs from the former WGFL lifted the standard as they came into the comp, and with urban sprawl and the obvious advantages for some of the western clubs, the EDFL would now shit on the MGFL. Having said that, the loss of 15,000 power industry jobs over the last 25 years has not helped the Mid Gippy league either. No work means less quality footballers.

No most quarters now run 24-27 minutes in the EDFL.

The quarter lengths were ridiculous when I first started in the EDFL. There was one game against Nyora where all four quarters ran 35+ minutes. Didn't help that they kicked 30+ goals but still should be going over 35 minutes.

Was a major reason for having so many century goal kickers. There was one season with 5-6 guys kicking 100. The last few seasons you are lucky to have that many kick 50.

Good to see the Rock get a win, only thing left is for both Yarra teams to collect wooden spoons and for Traf to get back to back flags in the bag and it will be a perfect season!:)

Another loss for Traf. Is anyone prepared to write them off yet? Has Mirboo Nth and Newborough gone past them now or can Traf peak when it matters?

At the half way point. Get some interest happening here.
Flag- Mirboo North from Newbourough
Biggest Improvement- Hillmen
Best Ruck - brooks from wood
Best OB- Emery from K Butler from F Marks
Best Defender- O'Sullivan from Phillips from J Butler
Best forward - Trail from Swift from Slevason

Top 5 looking locked in unless the Hillmen really get going.

Frank Marks really? In the top three in the league? Haven't seen him play for two years...

Boolarra have done themselves no harm in signing Hider, Sus Emery will have a field day playing with him. Without a doubt Hider is one of the best midfielders I have seen at local footy level, has great football nous and even though he is getting on in age his ability to win the ball and use outside players was outstanding at both Maffra and City, as Plugger said probabaly one of the hardest local players to tag in his day as he was supremely fit and deceptive in his pace but won alot of his own ball.

I see Shane "chocco" Peters has had a clearance from MDU to Mirboo Nth Denied. Is this a case of Mirboo Nth chasing some former players to top up for a tilt at a premiership, or chocco deserting a side that is battling a bit to try and claim some glory for himself. Either way its pretty ordinary for a bloke to change teams mid-season. Im sure the Boo would be happy to have him, Except for the poor bloke who gets dropped for the finals in favour of Peters. Be interesting to see if Mirboo Nth appeal with the VCFL

Thought Mirboo would've been happy to see the back of him when he went to MDU.

Why would they want a character like this back at their club is beyond me.

Not a good look for the league when guys are turning up mid season and getting in for the finals. I'm sure it's within the rules but just isn't in the right spirit in my opinion. Have also heard Don Webb will be back for Mirboo Nth before the seasons out, can anyone shed any light on this?

It does seem to be happening more regularly. It's a good short term fix, but not always good in the long run when you have blokes playing all year and getting pushed out by ring ins.
For example, if I was a young kid playing at a club like Mirboo and got pushed out of the side to make way for Peters or Webb, I'd be pretty dirty on the club.
So, whilst it might make sense for clubs in the short term to win a flag, it could also come back and haunt them when youngsters leave their clubs. The youth is the future.

They dont have to appeal the decision. Because he applied to be cleared before the deadline, he can continue down the same path as other players throughout the clearance period, with 3 attempts, even after the clearances have closed.

It may be that he owes Meenyan some money or something else and they are within their rights to reclaim what is theirs. Meenyan can also wait the full 14 days between each application and rejection so it can conceivably take 6 weeks for the clearance to be approved, by which time the finals are just around the corner.

Im happy to be proved wrong here but I think I am on the money (without checking the VCFL rules). As long as he has made application before the deadline, he is welcome to continue on the same path as others earlier in the year.

wh

When did they sign hider what a massive signing played on him when he was at sale city and hard man to stop would still be right up there with the best still easy,

Frank marks is a jet and will only get better.

I dont think traf can win it this year and may struggle losing a few on the weekend especially butler #5 with a hamstring and another forward maybe holdsworth the younger one?

Would have thought he would be a contracted player as he never plays for nothing! It would be MDU's call to let him go, money owed or not. Vcfl contracts are worth more than a lot of people think. Intersting to know who made the approach Peter's to Mirboo or Mirboo to peters. Shane not the most loyal person with a truck load of jumpers in his cupboard!
