Re: Mid Gippy 2011

So the make-up of mid gippy? with all the talk of other leagues and admin etc.A. how long since there has been change and B is there any possibility of change..(suspect a club wanting to join would meet stiff opposition due to ten even teams and minimal travelling?

Re: Mid Gippy 2011

In 1983 and 84 Hazelwood-Churchill and Maryvale left the comp. There has been no change since, according to the Mid Gippsland History on the VCFL website, but it does seem to be a bit fragmented. Both Newborough and Yallourn Nth tried their hands at the LVFL during the 80s, from memory so it has at least been 20 years since any change.

I cant speak for anyone else, but I would think the MGFL is happy with a 10 team competition and any club wanting in, would definitely be met with stiff opposition. The beauty of the current format is a 10 team comp comprises 18 home and away games and 4 weeks of finals with a final 5. There is also very little travel when compared to other clubs.

The EDFL had 10 teams also, as recently as 10-15 years ago. Their competition has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in overall standard but some of the eastern clubs would most likely argue that to keep up with the clubs close to the suburbs, more money is needed to recruit more quality players.

Lifting the standard of the EDFL has been good for the competition, however there has also been a serious downside with the overall competitiveness of most of the original 10 clubs.

I cant see it being a factor here. It is not like a new club would come from the Pakenham area. However, I get the feeling that the competition's member clubs are quite happy with the amount of clubs right now. It's a bit of a bubble in the MGFL, and to be honest, it doesnt look like it will burst any time soon.

Mirboo North B&F:

Seniors
1st Don Webb (5 in a row)
2nd Daniel Taylor
3rd Brett Palmer

Reserves
1st Joel Graeme
2nd Andy McCarthy

As for the league B&F who knows but the names mentioned should be on the mark!

Re: Mid Gippy 2011

My tips for this weekend's games are:

Traf to beat Boolarra up the rock. The week off will have freshened Traf up, no doubt.

The other form team of the competition, Newborough, will see Mirboo Nth out in straight sets, at home in front of a massive home crowd.

6 goals Pluggeroo - Mirboo Easy :thumbsu:

Re: Mid Gippy 2011

6 goals down at 3/4 time last time at the same venue without a rabid crowd egging the home team on. Kicked 4 consolation goals in the last to flatter the result.

Thats true and many many guys were missing from Mirboo Nths team that day.

We been through this - If u dont accept that Mirboo Nth were missing a shit load of very good players that day then i give up.

Re: Mid Gippy 2011

Mirboo North not troubled and won by 64 points, even with 2 players down before quarter time. A big difference when most players are back.

Should be a good match against Boolarra next week. I think Mirboo will win this time!

Once again Boolarra's much harder at the ball and overcomes a soft front running Mirboo North :)
