I think what Sheahan, and maybe some of the posters on here, don’t understand is that to enjoy the A-league you have to invest a bit of emotional energy into it.
What I mean is that; unless you are a true soccer lover, you might not really enjoy watching the A-league from a neutral or non-passionate perspective. So, unless you’re really supporting one of the teams playing (which I doubt Sheahan was) you might very well find it a bit ho-hum.
The A-league will not survive on quality alone; realistically it would struggle to be in he top 20 leagues in the world. Your average armchair sports fan can flick from the A-league to the EPL or the champions league, and will obviously see a better product. What the A-league need to do is to focus on the "live and local" aspect, having reasonable quality on the pitch and great atmosphere in the stands.
I’ve been to half a dozen games at the dome, including last weekend's, and my passion for the club is really starting to grow. For me that’s simply what the A-league needs, passion.
As, apart from at the very highest levels of the game, soccer without passion can be fairly average.
