i feel sorry for the victim, imagine going through this for 10 years. having said that she did not do herself any favors, especially when she started to change her evidence and started to obviously lie trying to get the tougher charge. but given what happened and the influencing factors, it's something you can forgive

i feel sorry for milne a bit as well. this case was never dealt with properly. charges made up, lies pushed and politics took hold of the case. i'm glad he did the right thing in the end and took responsibility for what he did

vic police. i'd rather not say what i think. absolutely horrible. those two rogue cops on either side of the spectrum, cant get much lower. pathetic

Pretty confused by all this to be honest, Milne pleads guilty to indecent assault but only gets a fine? Seems like this is one of those things where the full/real story isn't ever going to come out. Don't know what to think about it all now.

Its not a small fine.
It was a serious offense.
It didn't include violence.
Jail clearly wouldn't help his re-rehabilitation.
It was a first offense.
He hasn't done anything wrong in the years that have passed.

So that sort of gives you an idea where his crime sits in the legal hierarchy.

The victim clearly has a better chance to get over it than someone who was killed by a king hit to the back of the head.

Interestingly there is a stupid thread on Bay13, basically set up for flogs to voice their disgust at all things steven milne. They have now banned anyone who doesn't agree with them.
Since the mods are obviously involved I'd urge Milne to sue Big Footy.

That thread is absolutely appalling. Actionable.

I don't understand where this throbbing rage-boner for our club comes from.

Had Milne been charged 10 years ago he would have been likely fined and given a suspended sentence/good behaviour and community service. However 10 years with zero other incidents (which is a MAJOR factor in sentencing) and good character witnesses from reputable public figures means he gets the only punishment that would really mean anything.

Believe me, he has paid a LOT more then 15 grand in this ordeal.

Milne welcome back at St Kilda

St Kilda says Stephen Milne is still welcome at the club and will not lose his life membership despite yesterday being fined for indecent assault.

The 34-year-old retired last year after being charged with rape.

Those charges were later dropped. Instead, Milne pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of indecent assault following the 2004 incident.

Speaking about the case for the first time, St Kilda's new chief executive Matt Finnis told Neil Mitchell the Saints are respectful of women.

But he stopped short of calling on Milne to publicly apologise to the victim.

"That's clearly a matter for Stephen," he said.
