Was going to start a "Toast" thread but this will do.. Maybe mods can edit it?

Stephen Milne kicked his 50th goal for 2012. This is 6th time in his career he has achieved this and is the 3rd straight year he's kicked 50+ goals. He has now kicked 540 goals in 256 games. In 8 of his 12 seasons he has kicked over 45 goals.

He also extends his record to 31 games in row where he has kicked at least 1 goal.

Lock him in as All Australian forward again and he is well and truly one of the greatest small forwards to ever play game.

A long term performer and champion in one of the hardest spots in the AFL - small forward.

Love his performance, long term contribution, cheeky nature, passion and desire to spread the love amongst the opposition players and supporters.

Now at 256 games and as good as ever, it is not unrealistic to see Milne joining the 300 Club at St Kilda (it would help if we were to make finals)

PS Edit: Also worth noting that at 50 goals Milne is 6th on the AFL goal kicking table. He only has key power forwards in front of him and has behind him Nick Riewoldt, Travis Cloke and Taylor Walker.

Excuse the intrusion gents, but thought I'd add a few words.

Milne has never been a player I've liked; he's very easy to dislike on the field as an opposition player (no surprise there). But I must say I really respect his continued performance on the field through the years. Lots of players get talked up as "great" small forwards, very few actually deliver season after season. All the talk about Rioli and Betts for example, they haven't got near Milne's numbers. At the end of the day a small forward is there to kick goals and he does this extremely well.

Very well played. Amazing consistency.

That's what I was saying last night Partridge, so many people hate him but you can't deny his ability.

As for me however, I get to love him to bits and watch him tear it up. Has to be a chance for AA along with Seany D.

Is only 9 goals short of Peter Daicos now. Has only played 6 more games then him aswell.

how many goals by him next week against GWS?
5, i think

I'm trying to remember a game some years back. I think it was Richmond, and there was a problem with either Riewoldt or both Riewoldt and Kosi.
Milney was just the man, he was taking speccies and kicked a bag. Was crazy.

I initially thought a couple of months ago that this should be his final year. However, he may have shown enough to secure a place in 2013. It would be an extremely tough call to cut him form the list after kicking 50 goals for the season, regardless of the club taking a youth orientated direction in 2013. Milne could kick 8 next week against the struggling GWS.

Why would we even consider cutting our leading goal kicker regardless of his age?

Milne at the beginning of the season he was struggling. He has lifted in the second half of the season, no question about that. Age will catch up to him eventually, the football club could be looking to the future a lot sooner that some may realize.

Kicked a bag full against Brisbane Lions a few years back i think it was 9 or 10

How many finals games has he played and where does that rank in saints records and AFL? I'm sure his numbers will be good.

Unfortunately in most finals Milne has been relatively quiet. I'm sure many senior players since 2004 would have played a fair chunk of finals, as St.Kilda has only missed the finals once from 2004-2011.

Unfortuantly thats how opposition players and supporters see him but will go down as the best small forward of all time, something that opposition clubs have not had for years (Daics,Matera etc etc)

Absolutely no doubt there. He will go down as one of St.Kilda's greatest. I think you will find it's a dying position and not many players will play the role full-time in the forward pocket in the future. Even guys like Saad and Millera would be expected to play midfield once they make a sustained mark at AFL level. Milne has been unsuccessful playing any significant role in the midfield, so it's been amazing he has survived the journey.

Even if St.Kilda did cut him from the list (unlikely now), it wouldn't surprise me if Sheedy looked to draft him for a year or two at GWS. They could do a lot worse than use a late pick to secure him, which would help the young small forwards and add experience to their developing players.

With that in mind, Milne is a chance to eventually reach 300 matches.

If Milne is kicking 50+ per year, it doesn't matter what age he is. If he is kicking that many each year, you would keep him on the list until he is 40 (or older)

Or the final game against Brisbane when Milne kicked a swag (11 wasn't it). Heard Leigh Matthews say that game still gives him nightmares
