What a win. Badluck to the ressies lads who tried hard all day.

I dont think anyone saw a ten goal flogging coming! Was brilliant to watch. Youre right BIGHAWK, winners across all lines! Cant fault any player for anything. It was good to see you back for the day mate!

First Tatyoon team to win 3 flags in a row! Sensational!

SUPERIOR HAWKS THREE-PEAT
Tatyoon have become the fifth team in Mininera history to win at least three consecutive premierships with a clinical 61 point victory over a disappointing Hawkesdale-Macarthur.
The Hawks were too strong, too quick and too desperate for the Eagles and now join Lake Bolac 1948-50, Lake Bolac 1954-57, Penshurst 1991-93 and Wickliffe-Lake Bolac 2000-02 as the only winners of three consecutive flags.
The day began with Tatyoon making two changes, with Shane Hitchcock with a hamstring injury and Toby Ord dropped, being replaced by Tim McDougall and Luke Nicholas. The Eagles surprisingly left out Kalon Wilkie, who was replaced by young Jacob Kelson.
The Eagles won the toss and kicked with the aid of a strong breeze, but unfortunately a stuttering start only seen them kick two goals from the boots of Mark Johnson and Brad Sholl.
The Hawks on the other hand had come to play, with the likes of Chris Milne and Justin McMahon showing plenty of muscle with some big knocks on players in willing contests. They possibly should have had a quarter time lead, but sprayed a few shots, with only VCFL medallist, Andrew Maconachie registering a six pointer for the Hawks.
A late, high hit on Eagle’s coach, Jamie Hetherington late in the quarter resulted in a yellow card and report of Hawk’s full forward, Andrew McDougall, but this did not hinder the Hawks even though they were one short for 15 minutes.
A narrow four point lead to the Eagles at the first break was soon out to ten, when ace forward Frank Matthews kicked a goal. That moved him to 98 for the season and you could maybe, sense that the Eagles were about to hit their stride.
But it was short-lived with the Hawks dominating play and kicking the next four goals of the term. Chris Milne, Luke Nicholas, Tony Campbell and the brilliant Sean McDougall all kicked goals, and if not for wasted shots at the big sticks and a Hawk lead of 18 points at the main break could have been significantly bigger.
Andrew Maconachie and Sean McDougall were winning the ball at will, while Andy Tucker, Gerard Douglas and Chris Milne were all having an impact. The Eagles best by far was Josh Reichman on a wing, but he had next to no mates.
The Eagles were being out-pointed in every aspect of final’s football, but with the breeze at their backs and on the back of some strong urgings from Hetherington, everyone was expecting a counter-attack of some sorts.
But by the 20 minute mark of the third term the Grand Final was over, with Tatyoon kicking five of the first six goals, at the non-scoring end. Maconachie, Campbell, and Matthew Harris were joined by McDougall brothers in Zander and Andrew with goals, while only Mark Johnson interrupted the sequence with an Eagle’s goal.
The quarter ended with Hetherington and Johnson kicking goals for the Eagles, but a goal, splitting these by inspirational Hawk’s captain, Andy Tucker made sure they were in control at the last break with a 34 point lead.
All looked lost for the Eagle’s, especially facing an almost six goal deficit against the breeze, but one last urging from Hetherington, imploring his players ‘to roll the dice and leave nothing in the tank’, gave supporters some clinging hopes.
But those hopes were dashed in the first eight minutes of the last quarter, when goals to Andrew McDougall (three), Justin McMahon and Sean McDougall stretched the margin out to an ever-growing 54 points.
From there on, it was party time for the Tatyoon boys, and they booted another four goals to give them seven for the quarter. Two goals to big Mitch Welsh resting from rucking duties in the forward line, was stamped fittingly with the games final goal to best on ground player in Maconachie.
He was brilliant all day, running the lines and creating plenty of pressure on the Eagle’s defence with his long kicking to his forwards. He fully deserved the VCFL medal as one of the best on the ground, finishing with three goals of his own.
To rub salt into the Eagle’s wounds was Matthews being stranded on 99 goals, after he kicked his second late in the last term. Full credit to his opponent in Aaron Jenkins, but it was obvious the big forward was nowhere near his best and was still hampered by his hamstring injury.
Mark Johnson did his best with four goals, while Sholl chipped in with two, although down on recent form. As mentioned earlier Josh Reichman was clearly their best player and must have been considered closely for either of the VCFL or Jim Knight medals as best player.
This victory, for Tatyoon, may be the sweetest of all three, especially as they battled all season to get their best team on the ground. With the likes of Jason James, Richard King, Darren Beer and Shane Hitchcock watching from the sidelines, the win was even more meritorious for the resilient Hawks.
Andrew Ward was the recipient of the Jim Knight Medal for a polished performance all over the ground, while Andy Tucker was inspirational either in the ruck or at his key post at centre half forward. And all this was after he received a heavy knock to his troublesome shoulder early in the game, which sent shudders through the Hawk’s camp.
Two unheralded heroes, for the Hawks, were two new players to the camp, in Bradd Wilson and Gerard Douglas. Wilson was dashing in his role off a back flank, while Douglas was elusive and finished his good work with a goal.
In the wash-up, the more professional and more desperate team won on the day, and full credit to the Hawks, while all and sundry at Hawkesdale-Macarthur will be suffering in their wait to fight another day.

Well done to all at Tatyoon, once again!:thumbsu:

I know its early yet.
but is there any word on who is leaving where? any retirements?
Well done to tatyoon, i tipped them since they smashed us in the first semi

Dunno but I think it might be the end of Ned Kelly at Dees.
Not sure what Hendo and Knighta's plans are... they getting long in the tooth hahahahaha

Great win by Taty, the match winning move being Andy Tucker into the ruck in my opinion!!
Can anyone give a report on how the two's went? Missed that game..

Would have to agree Tucks was sensational in the ruck and gave the boys 1st use. I think the other thing was that Doug & Wanga decided to go into the game without deploying any run with rolls, and backed the boys to go head to head. IMO it gave the boys the belief that they had the abilty to win. Had they decided to tag the key H/M players they would have been on the back foot before the game with a defensive mind set.

How good is Leigh Dadswell from the Ararat Advertiser going......obviously reads Big Footy!

Thought I was reading 'my post from above' on the back of the 'addy' this morning......either we saw the game exactly the same or.............

........but then again he was at Alexandra Oval on Saturday, so..............not another Mark Robinson from the Herald Sun wrirting stories from Big Footy blogs.

I hope the royalties are in the mail Leigh!

It was funny picking up my two local papers this morning (I write for the Ham Spec)and reading the same wrap-up on the game.

At least the Spec pay for my contributions!

Great win by the boys on saturday. Bit sore and sorry for myself today.
Hear the boys down hawksdale had a bit of fun with the 2's full forward having his teeth knocked out by one of the senior players.
Has anyone seen Zander McDougall - last seen sitting on Andrew Wards head?????

Any word on any big moves for next year? any new recruits coming into the area?

might not be big moves, but wouldnt surpise me if some young blokes just out of u16s at derri take off to the hampden u18 competition.
along with the other clubs with players just out of u16s, what are the age groups in the ararat league and that?

Does every1 know that Matthews and Sholl have already signed with tarang-mortlake to play next year..
i heard they signed before the MDFL grand final.. so that really shows why Hawksdale-Mac lost..
Goodbye Hawksdale-Mac next year!!! haha

Im pretty sure there not a two man team, after all they did make the granny without them in 2007.
I think the top 3 will stay pretty much the same with a young moyston side continuing to impress

Bit early to make that call dont u think!!
The season has barely finished and there is a lot of water to run under the bridge yet it terms of recruiting, players moving elsewhere, injury, retirements etc etc and in Moyston's case - finding a senior coach!!
Will have to wait a while yet before anyone can start making those calls..

Agree Bumbles....they have to make up at least 15 to 20 goals to get near Taty for starters.

i heard neil kelly was offered the job during the week, but turned it down after still remaining true to the demons planing to follow them during the year.

The Pumas could be a team to watch-few blokes coming back, possible recruits, and a popular club, which I would think would limit the number of players leaving. Hopefully they continue to push further up the ladder.

I'm sure everyone knows that you are talking about our resident bighawk, dont worry though im sure everyone will know before long - the boy is fairly good at talking about himself!!

I think i have made a nemises on big footy..

i dont really understand what i have done to you bumbles but ay your the one sulking :p
