NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Vikings signed GM Rick Spielman to a multi-year extension.
Spielman has held the title of GM since 2012. The Vikings have posted two losing seasons in his eight-year tenure and have a 72-54 record under Spielman. He previously served as the Vice President of Player Personnel in Minnesota for six seasons before assuming his current role. The Vikings have Kirk Cousins under contract through 2022 and head coach Mike Zimmer locked up through 2023. Spielman is an aggressive GM and his tenacity has largely been rewarded. Minnesota has one of the brightest outlooks from an organizational perspective in the league.

The Vikings won't have fans in the stands for either of their two home games in September.
Minnesota's early home games include a September 13 game against Green Bay and the Titans on September 27. The team isn't giving up on filling the stands in 2020, at least partially. "We will continue to work with the appropriate officials on our plans with the hope of bringing fans back in a safe manner later this season," the Vikings said in a statement. With the NFL refusing to adopt a blanket policy on stadium capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic, teams will continue to roll out a variety of policies on game attendance.

The Vikings have the biggest home field advantage in the entire NFL. No fans in the stands will affect the games in a big way, it's almost like playing on a neutral field. I believe the plan is to pipe in noise, but don't know how that is going to work.....

Connelly is just the kind of hybrid linebacker/safety that the Vikings are looking for. With no depth at safety (our only safeties on the roster are starters Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris) I can see him getting plenty of snaps throughout the year if he can fill the linebacker/safety role.

The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski said the Vikings' only chance to win games this season would be an aggressive pass-first offense.
Head coach Mike Zimmer can no longer "rely on ball control, tough defense and discipline to win games." The Vikings, with a beat up and inexperienced defense, have to "let it fly" rather than "ground and pound," as they have in recent seasons, Krawczynski said. The emergence of rookie WR Justin Jefferson -- who caught seven balls for 175 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 -- could make the transition easier for Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota offense. In the lead up to the team's Week 3 game against the Titans, Zimmer was still, somehow, emphasizing the importance of establishing the run to get the offense on track. Count us skeptical that old-school Zimmer is going to endorse a more open, pass-heavy offense.

Vikings QB Jake Browning, QB Nate Stanley, CB Cordrea Tankersley, FB Jake Bargas, OL Zack Bailey, CB Tae Hayes, OT Blake Brandel and S Luther Kirk to reserve/future contracts.
Stanley and Browning, who spent 2020 on the practice squad, ensure the Vikings open 2021 with at least three quarterbacks on its roster. Hayes made his Vikings debut in Week 17 on special teams and will also stick around. Bargas is merely insurance in case C.J. Ham misses any games.

Very much so, all the 'lower' teams where mainly down due to injury.

2021 very much a rebuilding year for the Vikings, especially on the defence. The Vikings really need a 3 technique DT and depth just about everywhere on the defence.

The Vikings have 11 draft picks, but no 2nd rounder, but I could easily see the Vikings going defence heavy in the draft. DT, DE, and S would be the top three defensive needs.

Depending on what the Vikings do with Reiff, (he should be extended IMO), the Vikings will either need one or two new Guards as well. The top three needs on the offence would be OG (x2) and WR.

word is that Gary Kubiak is going to retire, so the Vikings will have a new OC in 2021 - nothing new there....

Before the season I had us finishing about .500 so nothing surprising. Some pretty standard Vikings capitulations in key games but overall it wasn't a disaster.

QB is an interesting one. Cousins played well this year, but he’s never going to win you a Super Bowl. At pick 14, the Vikings are out of the range for the top 3, and the record on QB4 in the draft is not good. Maybe they could take a developmental 3rd rounder if Trask or Ridder are available.

So as a Panthers fan with my team sitting at #8 I should be worried.
