playing the loose man in defence

No, he's not.

He's been matched up even against the likes of Swan, Watson and Bolton of late, and still, the myth continues.

In any case, I agree with you that Jack won't be moved out of defence at this point, because he's clearly doing brilliantly where he is. As shown by him being BOG twice in three rounds. We depend on him hugely back there- amongst other things, all our attacks launched from the backline, our entire transition game, it starts with him. Without him, we'd be stuffed for a reliable kick-in and be turning it over across the defensive 50 arc a fair amount of the time.

I'm betting Stef Martin will return this weekend - thank God - and he'll play up forward, along with Rivers, Garland and Howe...

At least you've got that bit right.

Speaking of myths, you can peddle the bolded bit all you like but it still isnt true.

You can deny all you like.

But he's still been BOG in two of the last three rounds, is one of the most effective kicks in the league now, one of the most prolific marks and ball-winners in the league, wins more contested ball than over half of any opposition team, and is our 4th-best contested mark, in a team second-best in the comp for that, amongst other things.

Denial doesn't change this. Nor does repetition of said denial. Much as the facts may be inconvenient to the narrative, they are what they are.

Got money on him for the Brownlow or AA then Wonna?

Everything becomes about Jack in the end. Everyone loves and cares deeply about Jack. He's the most cared-for player in the AFL

I note the complete lack of any grey area in your considerations there. Things can be neither one extreme nor the other, you know

Yep, that'd certainly be the reason mate :thumbsu:

Also we have the Russky to play up forward at different stages throughout the game, along with Ricky Petterd very capable of playing a good role there, Dunn picking up his performance of late, and Sylvia's shown himself able to do alright as a lead-up forward in the past.

None of that quite matches what Mitch does for us though, so I hope like hell he's back fit and firing next year.

disappointing news but the one plus for Melbourne is they will get to trial different players up forward for the rest of the year. If they find something that clicks it will be a bonus for them when Clarke comes back in next year, along with Viney and their early ND picks.

Things are looking up for the Dees, plenty of upside to come and I like Neeld as a coach.

Can't take a trick this season. Without question the worst luck we've had in my time.

Really feel for Mitch and hopefully he can be back and ready for the 2013 pre-season. It now opens the door for the likes of Martin, Cook, and a bloke called Ricky Petterd.
