After a superb BBL14 where he took home the golden bat, most sixes, multiple hundreds, equal fasted hundred in BBL history, fastest 50 and 100 in a BBL final and probably one of the best t20 knocks you’ll see.

How good can he truly be? Where is his future in t20 cricket, white ball generally and the red ball scene.

A superb fielder with athletic capacity, a pretty quick and tall talented bowler with genuine talent as a power hitting batsman.

Had a great Summer but to be honest the Thunder bowled absolute pies to him all night

To be fair tho, Thunder really couldn’t bowl anywhere without being hit.

When someone like that is on, anyone is a wrong ball.

Full gets hit straight or dragged to leg, outside off was hit over cover and mid off. Walked at bowlers, used the crease, slower or fast neither worked. With pressure then put onto the bowlers almost no one will execute.

It’s a great way to bat as a white ball opener, even red ball. Put them under pressure and make them bowl to your strengths, turn good balls into bad ones using your crease and feet.

It’s why Konstas was able to achieve what he did against Bumrah in the Boxing Day test.

He does need to work on his long game, but i can see a world where he is a similar talent to Cam Green. Very very similar players.

His bowling doesn't seem to light the world on fire and his stats back this observation up. I don't know how Mitch himself feels obviously but I wonder if it'd benefit him focusing more on the one discipline (batting) rather than focusing on being an A/R?

A bit similar to Maxwell,I always thought he also batted to low in white ball cricket.

I'm not so sure about that. Initially I think they bowled too straight and he was pummelling them over leg side, but that was only for 2 or 3 overs. They adjusted their lines and their lengths with pace changeups and none of it mattered.

I wonder how he'd feel about that, and it probably depends on his long term goals.

A way to get into a lot of t20 sides these days is by being an all-rounder. You hear guys mention often how they're working on their bowling to provide an option, similarly with coaches talking about how they like when guys can do multiple things and it gets them in the team.

You look at most t20 teams these days and about 8 or 9 of the side can bat and bowl a bit. It's a format where being bits and pieces sort of player actually is a benefit. The longer the formats get the less useful bits and pieces are, but in t20s bits and pieces gets you a spot as 2 overs bowling and facing 20 balls is actually a very valuable skillset.

Having said all that, if his batting is that good and is consistent enough he won't need the extra bow to his game.

I hope he does well if he makes it to the next level but I won't be holding my breath, the BBL rarely produces international quality players that are picked purely from BBL performances and his shield and List A performances have been average at best. Maybe I'll be wrong though.

I think the talent is there as an all rounder, in terms of statistical achievements with the ball it is light on. However, he does bowl in the range of 135, and has bowled in the bbl specifically to a decent standard.

Let's not get carried away over some BBL performances. Green averages 55 with the bat in the shield, Owen averages 30 and bowls pies, he averages 52 with the ball in shield despite bowling on one of the more seam friendly decks in the county half the time.

This definitely.

He has the talent as a bowler and will likely work on it as it’s a good extra option to have. Whether red or white ball.

I’m not speaking about statistics wise. Purely on the eye, if you watch Owen play in white ball cricket, it’s very similar to the way Green plays. Owen needs to work on the longer format which he said he will. But ontop of that, he has the talent with the ball despite not having the output as of yet and his fielding is very good as is Greens, both for a tall player.

It’s not saying he is as good, or will be, but it is saying there a similar signs and that anything is possible in terms of him playing for Australia and becoming a good player.
