Thorp could certainly play in the back line. His key was his versatility and mobility. Unfortantely his body hasn't let him show that.

The problem is, he sees himself as a forward, and his best position a forward, which may lead to him to ask for a trade for more opportunity given we have Roughead and Franklin. Doubt the club will be that keen to let him go easily though.

Gun talent, just injuries have shot him so far.

Ive heard he is an ARROGANT SO'N'SO but realistically he is not worth more than a 4th round pick. Tuck is being bandied around for a 3rd round pick, I know he is still young but he has not proven anything yet. Tuck 27 and never gets injured versus a kid injury prone and no experience.

Thorp has indicated to Pelchen that he would like to remain a Hawk in 2010. They will still field offers for him, but will be unlikely to trade him for anything less than a top 25 pick. Contrary to media opinion he has "not" been offered in the Burgoyne deal.

Good to know:thumbsu: I've heard that his management (or someone) gave him a kick up the arse recently, is this true?

what will change for thorp if he stays? can he really be expected to get a game > 50% of games next year, even if injury free?

surely he would be trying to get a game, and perhaps the assurance of a contract > 1 year, by moving?

No idea what he is worth now, but he was a highly rated junior

Not entirely true, but he has had plenty of discussions over the past couple of months. He is determined to prove his doubters wrong and only needs a little luck on the injury front to make a good fist of it.

So he sees himself as a long term Hawk? I hope so I've been a wrap for this kid since we got him and would love him to get some luck and prove the doubters wrong, certainally has the talent.

It's quite funny to read some of the views on Thorp.

You take one of the highest rated key forward prospects in the 2006 draft. You give him 3 years of the best elite training and development that money can buy, at a club that's won a premiership. He's now older, more mature, bigger bodied, fitter and will have his injuries well behind him in 2010. He's yet to break in to probably the best forward line in the competition.

And yet for some reason we should offer him up for trade at a bargain price?? Please explain.

for 'will' please subsitute "I hope"!

given he is injury prone and there is much speculation about his capacity for hard work Thorp's trade value is negligible.

Interesting to read some of the views in this thread considering he was delisted.

Yet some Hawthorn supporters wouldn't have traded him for something over the odds.

Thorp was offered up for trade but no club showed any interest in him.

Might get a new home but would need to pull his finger out. And this just serves as proof that some players are grossly overrated on these boards.

I expect the Saints to take a recycled player at pick 60/64, and Mitch Thorp fits a few of our criteria - medium size, tough, mobile, goal-kicker.

His problem will be that we've already committed to one fixer-upper in Lovett so Thorp will have to work hard to convince us that he's also worth a punt.

But in isolation I'd definitely take him.

If Richmond doesn't actively seek him in the PSD then you'd have to deduce that he's probably not worth it.

He would fit a clear an obvious need and Hardwick would know him well.

I reckon we'd nab him at #2, which would be kinda cool.

Nice to know others stuff up their early draft picks too, from time to time.

Richmond would seem to be the best option for him. It is likely that he would be given every chance to play there and he already knows Hardwick (I am assuming that is a positive). Interesting to see if he goes into the ND or opts for the PSD.

I would think PSD. If Dees get Ball committed then he could start trainiung with us early.

And, he'd get to play forward not be asked to become a defender like the Hawks were apparently trying to do.

We like to help troubled souls find inner peace, too.

Thorp had surgery to remove a bone fragment and have a pin inserted in his foot. Out for the season. The reason it's one of our most injury prone seasons is because many of our players got injured, including him.

A first round pick is not the kitchen sink - it's what he's worth. Thorp = Butcher + 3 years of elite AFL development at a winning club. There is no way we will trade for less than a good player or 1st round pick. Otherwise, he will either become a valuable contributor next year or go to the Gold Coast for one of their many first round picks. Either way, I will be happy.

just classic

Very highly rated youngster, taken at pick 6, who will either be traded for a 1st round pick (given the complete lack of talls in this years draft) or given a couple of years to come good.

Seriously, would Essendon trade Gumbleton for a late 2nd round pick? No chance - he still has too much upside despite his slow start. I also doubt that Melbourne will get rid of Jack Watts if he doesn't perform in the first 2 years.

This is my favourite:thumbsu:

Seems to play without intensity at VFL level and one game aside where he kicked a bag up forward he just is not looking like the quality junior he was before he was drafted. The decision making and time he had as a junior does not seem to be their and the mobility is greatly down.

Injuries have taken their toll and not sure what the future prognosis is for him in that regard. Just because you have the tools as a kid does not mean that will translate if you get repeated serious injuries, dont get much of a look in when fit anyway due to good depth or your attitutde and work ethic is not their. You only develop if you do all the hard work and have an injury free run for an extended period.

Thorp seems to have been unlucky with injuries and with a questionable attitude towards training, rehabilitaion and coachability Hawthorn dont think its worth the trouble.

Worth a shot for another club I would think though in the PSD.
