He had a very good 12 months but it now feels like it was a once off purple patch and not indicative that he's really improved in the longest format.

At this point he's just warming a seat for Cameron Green, the question is whether he lasts long enough to fill that role or if they give Webster a go.
As much as i love him he has to go, reward Webster for his shield form. He literally can't offer much less and Green is coming back anyway. Great chance to see what he has.

Said this in the match thread. Bloke has been average for most of his 40 odd test matches.

Thought after the breakthrough 180 against England and some good scores to follow we had seen the making of him, but wasn't to be.

Got a chance back in England and took it. Had a good summer to follow, but this summer has been poor.

His bowling is actually good. But if he can't back up and bow overs day after day, test after test, along with low scores what is the point of having him.

Webster had an amazing last year and has backed it up his year so far. Hardie has been down on form, but has been in the 1 day side and shown potential and even Cartwright is in the runs this summer and has played a couple of tests, all would be more worthy than Marsh.

When does the great guy around the change room credit run out?

He's not in the 6 best bats in the country or is that theory not in play any more? He's not even the most in form all rounder in the country.

Win or lose, I'd move on from him after this series.

Yep, I also love the Bison but unfortunately he is a spent force. There’s only so much time that being the best bloke in the world to have around the group is going to buy before the call has to be made. Give Webster the nod to plug the Green gap.

Without taking anything away from Bisons AB medal win last season but to win the medal these days, you pretty much have to be playing at least all 3 formats to have a shout of winning.

I also sense for Marsh who is 33 now , once he is out of this team, it will be really difficult for him to make it back to into the team. I won’t bag him, as there are couple of people on these forums who have bagged me back. I’d say because he has a strong bond with a lot of the lads in there he will get an extended run in the side. If Australia happen to lose or draw this series against India, Aussies may be tempted to play Beau Webster as he offers more with the ball.

If Marsh comes out and snags at least 2-3 wickets in this 4th test, I reckon he has booked his ticket to Sri Lanka.

Yup, especially because the expected incumbent is the next big hope for Australian Cricket in Cam Green.

Mitch seems like a nice bloke and I was glad to see him perform in England. But even at the time, I thought Green should have come back in for him immediately and not be forced to bide his time. Marsh’s scores in this Ashes progressively got worse and I had a feeling it was just a purple patch. That said, I think he’ll play the fifth Test, particularly if we win.

I think he'll finish his career as probably the equal third best ODI all rounder we've ever had, behind Symonds and Watson (M Waugh and Bevan I've always felt like are more part time bowlers than all rounders) and equal with Maxwell, depending on what role you want. He'll also go down as one of our best T20 players ever, probably behind Finch, Warner and Maxwell at a minimum.

He had a purple patch last year. I understood why he was picked at the start of the series, he'd objectively been our best bat since his return to the side but now it's time for him to focus on white ball cricket where he's a legitimate star.

Needs to be gone. ASAP. Looks like he enjoys being in the Australian team but doesn't actually want to be on the field actually playing and putting in. When he goes out to bat, he looks like he can't wait to get back to the change rooms. I reckon he'd walk if you appealed before the bowler had even started his runup to the crease to bowl. Don't get me started on his bowling. Zero contribution there when needed to step up.

Has never lived up to the hype.

by all reports a nice guy to have in the locker room. gonna have to be a good guy to have in the bedroom to keep getting selected beyond this series. a lot riding on mcg second innings. otherwise shouldn't play in sydney but they wouldn't change a winning team even if he stinks it up.

shaun fashioned out a pretty good odi career and was one of the premier bats of the ipl at one point.
geoff also a good odi career, very much of his time in odi's of that period, with regard to strike rate.

Looks tired. Even if the selectors don't want to drop him (and essentially write his Test career off) at this point, "manage" him for Webster cos he's clearly not getting through the crease, we need a 5th bowler and an in form batter at 6.
If the selectors had a clue, Webster would have been brought in for the Adelaide Test.

Must finally come in for Marsh for Sydney Test.
