Mitchell broke a bone in his hand early in the last quarter of the dramatic win over the Western Bulldogs, yet kicked a crucial goal and effected several key smothers despite the pain.
He had surgery last night to repair the damage, having a plate and screws inserted.
But the club believes the surgery will give him a chance to return next week against the Brisbane Lions.

A big loss, no doubt. His game last Friday was very very good, and he would definitely have attracted some attention from Ling.

Would make it pretty easy, presuming Laddo's virus keeps him out from returning, to simply bring Browny and Gibbo in for Mitch and one of Peterson, Schoey or Muston.

Whilst it may affect our flexibility, I'm leaning towards Schoey going out as Musto is doing a great shutdown job which may apply to Mackie this week, meanwhile "Chubbs" surely will start to get his goal-kicking under control and convert those 3 or 4 chances he's been grabbing.

Agree, now is the time for Burger to slot in and take a senior midfield role as we know he is primed for a return to full capacity.

I havent seen anyone else willing to go elite this year from our midfield. Ellis and Lewis just havent taken that next step. Its' an uphill task now to be sure.
