I'm so glad that the couple that used the best cooking techniques and ingredients won over spice, spice, and more spice. Gotta say that was a ripper final to what's been a ho-hum season overall.

Really only 3 good teams this year- and they made the final 3. Amy and Tyson were easily the best though.

I think Tim & Kyle could've won it, but they learned something we see often in footy finals, that a bye before the semi's can cause a drop in form.

Also they learnt to not use packets of pretzels and think you will get away with it. Plus over 3 courses the mother and daughter are less prone to stuff ups. They always were going to cook a good main and entree, and even though the boys had shown they can make desserts it was never their strongest course. It was close to their worst matchup. Over 5 courses Tim and Kyle would have won.

Josh: I wouldn't put rhubarb with marron, no way.

eats the dish.

Josh: who'd a thought rhubarb works with marron.

This from the guy who's best elimination round score was 29/60
Haha

To be fair though even the judges said its not a combination they thought would work

It's one of the reasons why I'm glad Tyson and Amy won - they were the best team in the competition and weren't afraid to cook something different or stay with what was safe

Also whether it was done deliberately by the producers or not, they morphed from a team that seemed arrogant/unlikeable to genuinely nice people. Tyson especially looked more comfortable the longer the season went and by the end showed he was not only humble but has a good sense of humour to go with it

And, that's why they were my favourite team - they took risks and it worked. Whereas, Courtney and Valerie would cook the same stuff each week, following a cookbook. I am so glad they did not win.

IIRC the team who won last year were two girls who cooked good spicy Asian sauces, so I'm glad that a team who actually showed they could cook technically difficult dishes well, rather than drown everything in curry or chilies won this year. I do think V&C's dishes looked good, but like you said they just did the same thing again and again.

He said something really dumb when he walked in. I didn't quite catch it, but it was something about the grand final and Amy was like "wtf? we are in the grand final." The guy is just ridiculous.

The right team won, they were inventive and brave every single episode. It would have be travesty if they had lost. I'm sure Val and Courtney put out some great food, but as said, they never really challenged themselves. And Tim and Kyle would have been destroyed in the finals. It would have been four meat and sauce dishes and chocolate mousse.

I'm not sure if I'll watch it next year. They need to tone the faux drama down and make it about cooking again. It just goes on for too long and I'll struggle to commit six hours a week for three or four months.
