How are you blokes going for numbers over there at the moment PK. I'd heard around the traps that you were struggling a bit.

big time Desie, massive player loss,no new recruits,no money, me the only committee member, outstanding debts-we hit the wall all at once.the onlt solution for the club was to field one team only in 2nd Div. we lost 21 of 28 1st graders from squad last yr,RAAF players are being sent away in droves(even more than usual)so the decision was made.we will re-build,put some coin in the coffers, get some success and go from there. thats the hardest part of running a club in the AFLs hardest market in Australia,ya gotta do it all off your own bat.

I'm sorry to hear that mate. Believe me I know how hard it is to keep a senior footy club on the park in Sydney's west, let alone a successful one. Hopefully you guys can keep things on track to some degree for a big tilt at 2006. I'm sure all the Penrith boys are right behind you.

Thanks Jim, that feedback would be muchly appreciated.

Shiek,
Have contacted your son and made him most welcome at Maffra . I will send you a message offline.
The Maffra Eagles are now in training under the guidance of senior coach Wayne Butcher - 2004 Country Footy coach of the year along with Maffra Club being club of the year.
Sure the eagles have lost a couple of players to WAFL & VFL sides however I believe with a couple coming up from the thirds and some wise recruiting we will be competitive again.
The West Gippy League ex Latrobe Valley footy league is the best footy standard east of Warragul to the NSW border.
3 new sides in Drouin,Warragul & Garfield for a 9 team comp in 2005
Club will look after him & look fwd to turning him into a player.Few ex RAAFies around the club Shiek , so all will be well.

Shiek

I know a bloke who was in the same situation as your son last year, he has recently posted out of RAAF EAST SALE. Tell your son to talk to a bloke by the name of Andrew Johnson out their and he'll point you in the right direction. Don't know if the Sale City blokes are putting in a team again this year but my advice would be to steer clear if he wants to develop his footy. Send us a private if you want to know any more.

is that the seven foot(exagerated)giant ruckman with a blood nut?if so he's one of our old boys, send him a howdy from Norwest FC in Sydney

Sheik ,i'm probably a bit late by the sounds ,i'm still involved with the mighty pies @ sale ,best ground east of Melbourne .We've lost big Andrew J. this year so we're looking for some big blokes .Stuey Anderson does a lot of the fitness & skill coaching ,he played under Pagan in a premiership side @ North so he knows what he's on about ,he has a lot of knowledge to impart to someone young & enthusiastic like your young bloke sounds so if he hasn't signed anywhere we would love him to come down.Every club relies on their local employers to provide them with players ,so it would be a shame if he had to go out of town to play.

Crikey PK!

I hear ya about trying to run a club on your own! Not very easy. Send me an email and I'll give you a hand. At the very least pull on the boots and see if I can round up a few old Mountain Lions.

Hear from you soon. It's Easter now, but not too late.

Great Stuff Bald Eagle good luck to your son Shiek. I worked for Defence in Queenscliff and some of the boys played in Bellarine League.

Maffra's that far "out of town"

The mighty eagles in the village have always been as good as what they are now ,it's just that for numerous reasons ,the standard of the league & all the other teams have got worse.Unfortunately for us all the Sale players that would've come of age & matured @ the same time the maffra guys have are either playing AFL or VFL or in the major league in SA.Maffra boys never leave Maffra & in this day & age ,thats a huge advantage for the footy club.

Got a phone call from the son tonight, he trained with Maffra last night and liked the warm reception he got. He'll debut for them in a few weeks time as he has RAAF commitments this weekend in Melbourne and then Maffra has the bye the week after. This will give him some additional time for training and to familiarise himself with the place.

Great news, hope he enjoys his time at the eagles, what name should I be looking out for in the paper in the best for Maffra?

You'll be waiting a while. ;)

It'd be great if he could become a solid player for Maffra but he still has a lot of learning to do in regards to how the game is played.

Still, he got a few BOG's last year playing for ADFA in the magoos. Then again, from what I saw, the standard wasn't exactly that high.

speaking of which does anyone know of any ins and outs for these clubs. drouin have gained the services of jeremy 'lingy' campbell (from rochester). my understanding is that they will need players of his caliver due to their jump in league standard. also heard they targeted sam 'stretch' brennan (also from rochester) to no avail however as he has opted for another season with the mighty tigers. sale have lost dane 'd train' williams from their list too apparantly.

Does anyone out there know how 'lingy' AKA Jeremy Campbell is going this year?
