I suppose most important and 'best' isn't really quite the same, but I'll leave them open to interpretation. Which player do you personally think has the most overall impact/is most important for their team? Which when taken out leaves the biggest hole? I suppose list depth comes into play. Hard to compare quantitatively with different positions too.

The usual suspects would be Jeremy Cameron, Marcus Bontempelli, Isaac Heeney, Toby Green (maybe not so much this year), Tom Greene, Harris Andrews, Zac Merrett, Tex Walker, Tom Stewart, Patrick Cripps, I would say Walsh but the Blues haven't performed much better with him yet...several rucks, I suppose. I'd say Elliott Yeo and Harley Reid definitely up there. Are there lesser lights that are really important but don't always get acknowledged?

At Carlton it is Jacob Weitering by the length of the Flemington straight.

Walsh out was annoying but mids are replaceable.

Gawn is probably the answer league wide.

One for us apart from the two obvious ones that you’ve mentioned - and to be fair along with Gryan Miers he is starting to get a bit more kudos lately - is Zach Guthrie.

In addition to their similar appearance via the blonde hair he and Stewart have started to turn into a bit of a double act down back like a budget Scarlett/Enright or Taylor/Enright etc that basically control our back 50 and whenever either of those two are around the ball we are fairly safe. The rest of our defence obviously plays its role yes but those two are the keys and when they take those intercepts and then hit Holmes and Duncan who are our best ball users it makes such a difference getting our attack going the other way (Holmes’ ball use isn’t razor sharp but his speed compensates a fair bit)

I came here to say Elliott Yeo before I noticed the OP was a WC supporter.

Might not be the bet player in the game but in terms of most important to a side I have him right up their so far this season.

Yeah in our darkest 2 year periods our most decent performances usually involved him. Disappointed that Reid didnt play GC, would be a good chance to get a read (no pun intended) on how much it's him vs home ground advantage. But if we're competitive against an in form Bombers with him back then that'll be huge for our confidence.

Backs definitely are very important for structure. I think the loss of Kiddy Coleman for Brisbane was a BIG reason for their fall. Looked dominant first half against Carlton and ever since he went down, aside from a few quarters and tbe Melbourne game have looked completely different. Bottom 4 quality. Quaynor plays a similar smaller half back winger and as he has declined so have the Pies.

Harley Reid definitely up there

So your contention is that a first year player with a grand total of 6 games under his belt is 'definitely up there' as one of the most important/best/most impactful players in the game right now? This is some hilarious BS even by your very high standards of BS.

Jordan Clark and Jeremy Sharp

Not “most” but well above their media reputations for impact/importance

2024 Jake Waterman
Last few years Callum Wilkie

And Sam Durham is easily Essendons 2nd best mid now. Sick of hearing about “Merrett and Parish”. Durham > Parish.
