Murphy's report - what do we think?

Just saw it one the news. It should be thrown out, but knowing the Tribunal Murph will get a week. Hopefully though he can get away with a reprimand cause we need him.

Will probably get two. I didn't think his intention was to go head high so he might get credit points for that. The bad thing is that he got him high and Ellis went off the field in not great shape.

The guy who did the handball should also get a week. That was the definition of a hospital handball.

Gave Ellis a hip and shoulder and knocked him out.

I reckon two weeks. :(
If that goes there's something seriously wrong. 2 blokes bumping, upright, not over the ball, with the ball there in the vicinity. Elbow tucked in one player taller than the other so the shoulders touches the had. What do you do? Do what any coach, player and supporter would expect. As Choco said (Re: Burgoyne), you can only protect the player so much. In a fair physical contest in a body contact game the head will occasionally get accidentally hit at times. It's a bump FFS.

If that goes then it's time to draft players from the "Blue Oyster Bar" as that's where the game would've gone.

Basically was just holding his ground, however I think he will get a week as his elbow came up towards the end.

Unlucky.

Josh Hill in for him next week?

Murphy has been reported and suspended before.

It was for another hip and shoulder.

If my memory serves me correctly it was against the Saints at the MCG in 2006. It was on the Great Southern Stand wing and he got a week.

I'm not sure if the points from 2006 carry over before.

It was soft, but I think he will go.

He got two weeks for thumping a port player in the head in the pre-season a few years ago. Not sure if it still counts for his record. I fear two weeks, but in all honesty all he did was stand up straight and wait for the muppet to run into him.

What about Brian Lake's hit on Lewis?

Exactly! Total crock that he was even reported.

I saw it for the first time on the news and if he goes for that then our game is pathetic. Arm was tucked in and it was unavoidable.
Go Doggies

Murphy hardly moved. Ellis appeared to fall towards Murph who tensed up. it would be pretty soft if he got weeks for that.

I agree. Murphy seemed to turn around in amongst a group of players and the Hawthorn player was coming straight at him. Murph has simply tensed up to protect himself. In my opinion it was bump or get crunched.

Yeah, what the hell was he supposed to do, get out of the way, or leave himself open to be smashed????

I love Bob.

But he didn't just wait for him to make contact.

He ran past the ball, and made a deliberate forward movement to bump Ellis. I don't think that he meant to get him high, but he did.

He will definitely get some points. How many points and how many matches that will equate to with prior records, early pleas and the like I'm not sure.

Don't know why you guys are suggesting he'll get 1-2 weeks, I will even be surprised if the case isn't dropped.

There was no intention to hurt Ellis - his face got in the way because he is 6 foot instead of 7 foot.
Your joking right. He The ball went past and he saw Ellis coming and stopped so he could hip and shoulder him. Nothing to do with the flow of play.

2 weeks with an early plea.

Murphy has 93.75 residual points from that bump on Dal Santo in 2005. If they don't throw the charge out, he's gorn for at least one. Minimum level 1 front on contact charge with the lowest gradings is 125 points, so he will most likely be offered one and risk two if he contests... which means he'll accept the one. If you're unlucky the MRP will grade it up to two weeks minimum.

I agree, I was at work listening to the game on MMM and it was almost as if he had murdered the bloke. I get home watch the reply and thought it wasn't quite as bad as what was described on the radio.
First of all Ellis wasn't bent over the ball trying to pick it up, also Bobby was well tucked in and his hip didn't make contact. Yes the top of his shoulder connected to the face area but it wasn't a running charge almost as though he stood still and momentum between the two made the clash.
One thing that wasn't great was that he was slightly past the ball.
For me a reprimand maybe 1 week, and with an ounce of luck even thrown out.

lol. Such bitterness...

Just saw the tv version...looks much the same as it did in real time.

Be surprised if anything comes of it.

VERY MUCH in the play, crank...even if he didn't pick the ball up, it effectively becomes a shepard, about 1 metre off the ball, as other Bulldog players pick it up.
Very much a legal action...

...just the high contact is the worry. Certainly no more than one.

No more than one week, and even then, purely because he got him in the head. Murphy isn't a malicious player, but it counts for nothing...the head is sacrosanct, has been all year, and he got him in the head.

Ellis was following the ball, and Murphy, due to velocity or any number of reasons made a split second call to bump the man, and hit his head, even though it was a relatively good bump...the ONLY way Ellis gets his head whacked is that he was starting to follow the ball downwards, and his opponent stands tall and braces.

End of discussion, I'd imagine. I think the only worrying thing with the MRP this year, is you can have two incidents like the Hawks/Port game where you can acknowledge that a one or two week holiday is justified, and they slug them with three (McGlynn's got freakin' upgraded to four when he contested!).

Cleaned up his head, he'll get more than Burgoyne for sure.

Will only get 1 to 2, Burgoyne got more because of his bad record and carry over points, Murphy has a good record so should get away with 1-2

I feel it will between 2 and 3 weeks which is not what we need but the contact was in the head and Ellis was carried from the field.

Just a point on head heighs, i am yet to see a player reported for head heigh when they attempt to spoil a mark and hit them in the back of the head, surely that is reportable as well or am i just being picky

I don't think there was anything in it. The report should be thrown out.
Murph was shepparding the ball was about 1 meter away at most, Ellis was heading toward the ball trying to gain possession and Murphy blocked his move. No elbow was used and he hardly moved at all. Given Murphy's record _ I don;t think he has been reported in his career. The most he should get is a fine and a warning.
