walker has been "sheltered" out on the wing so he can utilise his pace and skills. it has been working well for them with him being able to take the ruck work on that side of the ground and free up there starting ruckmen a bit

Probably not the ideal development process for John though in promoting him as a prospective AFL key position player.

Admittedly, it's a good team tactic if you're trying to make the team play better.

the bushies are really hitting some form coming into finals. good win against western at the weekend and they played far from their best footy of the year.

So doesn't that mean they're not hitting finals with top form- 'Played far from their best" ? Travel to Melbourne each week will be a big ask- but they are full of talent.

Things have gone a little quiet on the Bushies front. Any thoughts on this weekend against North Ballarat? Any new thoughts on draft possibilities and what stage they may go in draft,

any news on players for next year.
some great players coming out of the goulburn valley this year.
i would like to know if there are any players being looked at for next years squad??

Hahaha yeah good start. Although Ziebell will have a fair bit of APS footy won't he?

They rely on top agers a bit this year, but fellas like Browne who will be a ready to go ruckman for them, Klemke, Daniels, Martinello and Barolli isn't a bad group for them to build around.

so now that the season is over who do people think have shown the best form/improvement and SHOULD be looked at by afl clubs.
Obvioulsy Ben McEvoy, Dawson Simpson and Hockey have good names around the place, but is there any other top ages that have shown ability worthy of a place on an AFL list..just really interested

Cant see zeibell playing bushies at all ,he will have aps ais and ,state footy ,before he even looks at bushies so i cant see bushies excited about playing him . Sidebottom will be right and look out for him he's a very exciting player he will be very good for them. Of the other bottom agers there's some real talent i've had a look at .Pianto who plays with sidebottom should be good , theres a few who played in the u16 carnival who should come on ,big bloke brown will be good with a bit of time , Chris lewis from one of the wodonga teams has a great footy brain ,Matt irvine is a hard nut who might crack it ,zac jones another from the om so there will be plenty of support for the top ages with the NSW kids also back in the bushies so mcniel Johnstone and a few others will give them something . not knowing much more about them i am sure there's a few others who will come on

glad to hear that!! also what are the chances for the likes of Saker, Hebbard, Livingstone...havent seen enough to judge myself but am interested in them 3...have been a huge fan of walkers for years now so glad other ppl r recognising his talents

OntheBandwagon- I think that kight be the Walker Banmdwagon after reading your posts on him!

Livingstone is not a draft or rookie prospect at all. Hbbard and Saker have had solid defensive years. Saker as a reliable tall defender with attacking flair may get considered as a rookie. After watching the GF I'd be concerned at Hebbard's pace- Daniher left him behind very easily.

Great for the team to go so well this year, not only making it to the GF but also in that thay have at least a dozen draft prospects.

has saker got the ability to go forward? he has seemed very good down back, but i think AFL clubs would need to see the possibility of developing him as a forward if he was to be any chance of getting on an afl list...thoughts?

also, rockliff highlight of year for Bushies, from nowhere to right in the mix!!

I've seen a bit of Jake Lorraine in VLine, 16 Bushies, GVFL, and intra squad bushies at Rumbalara yesterday. I think he has a fair bit of potential, has been mainly used as FF or CHF in the games, I have seen and does well.

His height and age means he won't play either of those positions in TAC in 2008, possible to play FP of HFF but has to get a motor for those positions for 2008. IMO good set of hands, goal sense and plenty of "presence" on the ground but will need a lot more endurance. Should be good though.

Jake lorrain has got a heap of potential as much as any but unfortunatly not much else . He really needs to improve his attitude and selfishness. He wouldnt play u15's vic country because he was on target to kick 100 goals in his local u15 team and playing Vic would mean he would miss it (big deal...but shows his selfishness) Bushies u16 he was simply a hog selectors put a line straight through him ..evident by the selectors not picking him for even state trials. If he doesnt change his attitude he will end up another country footballer who could have been.... but wasnt. I certainly hope he matures a bit and really has a crack because like i said the kids got talent but he is going to waste it being an individual ..the sytem sees these blokes and puts a line straight through them . Any one connected to him should do him a favour and point it out to him because he could be something.

Some decisions at 15 can be dumb and regretted later, the Bushies will work him hard and he will have to respond in an appropriate manner. See what happens, but enough talent there though.

Played in the GV flag with Jacob this year and ill give you the hot tip, he is now selfish for his footy. the thursday after the granny was bushies practice or something and Jakey said no to a p i s s up at my house on the tuesday to celebrate, just so he could go for run and a kick and be in best possible condition for the thursday. that is a good mindset for a 15yr old i tell ya. everyone knows how enormus his talent is, and he will get it right very soon. the kid loves his cricket, and is a absolute gun with the bat, but gave it away this season so he can focus on footy come november.. that, is committment..

can anyone tell me how Jason Cole and Daniel Belsten went last thursday?? cheers

tom rockliff, best on ground for benalla seniors against euroa on the weekend. 7 goals, including 6 of them in the 3rd quarter when they decided to play him up forward.

murray selectors should pull their fingers out pretty soon and give the kid a game if they're planning on making finals this year!

Great call :thumbsu:

I think they only lost the one game after bringing Rocky into the side (unfortunatly for them that was the GF :p).

Probably a useless question now but I was wondering the other day how many on their list have played senior footy in the two main comps up there - Ovens and Murray and Goulburn Valley?

By my count they had 28 players on their list with local clubs being in the O&M or GV and I'm fairly sure the following have been played senior footy at some stage - Daniels, Normington, McIntyre, Hockey, Warnett, Birthisel, Barolli, Saker, Martinello, Browne. There will be more than that - who else?

And to what degree do you think it helps the Bushrangers young blokes playing in such good quality senior competitions from a young age?

Deledio, Boyle, Hebbard, Green, Milne, Thompson, Ryan, McEvoy, Morgan, Livingston, Giovannini, Mahoney, Rockliff and Hicks all would've played either GV or O&M seniors at some stage as well, so nearly all that played.. i would say it would help a fair bit as you'd be use to the big bodies and being hit hard going into the TAC.. whereas if you only played u18s youd have to adapt

If they weren't playing GVFL or O&M seniors they would be playing GVFL or O&M U18's and there is a huge difference between the two grades.

Sam Wright who plays for Katamatite in the Picola League has come from outside the GVFL and O&M and has played seniors and 18's in that league this season.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I wonder say if an AFL club watched fellas who went to the draft camp like Hockey or Normington playing local GVFL seniors, would it give them more knowledge on the player than what they can gather at TAC Cup level? Would it give the AFL clubs more confidence in them adapting to senior footy?

Take Andrew Browne as an example for next year, played seniors at Mansfield last year when he was 16, it wouldve been great to see him play in that comp last year and then compare it to what he does at the Bushies next year.

All that waffle is probably not much different to the thoughts that WA and SA players benefit by playing WAFL and SANFL senior footy I suppose.
