Had the opportunity to speak to junior coaches of Finley asked about the poaching of junior players from neighbouring towns in pdfnl they said two thirds boys from Finley have left Finley one to berrigan ,and one to rumba. They gained four one from toc,ber,2 from blighty none have been recruited by coaches all choices are personal or family choices

Secco and Mick still your junior coaches? How long has Mick been doing that now?

Actually that reminds me was that the PDFNL flag you won. At Blighty 2000?

Finley don't spend big money

Rumba had a coach on around 100k

Barooga just trumped a pdfl side by apparently paying for a blokes wedding. Finley have never spent big money because they don't have it and have been probably the most consistent side of the past 5 years. Ur just a fool trying to knock them whenever you can squeak
So big Kev...you know rumbas goings on? Cupidioy wasn't on $100,000... I suggest you get your facts straights before slandering people. Every club pays big money. Nathalias premiership from two year ago wasn't won on a shoe string budget along with most teams in the league.

Most boys from last years rumba premiership side, have a family connection with rumba and have played juniors at the club. Cupido, the two NT boys, Natrat, Dicky and Leon Johnson are the ones that didn't. Leon and Natrat do have a close family connection To the club and dickys mrs is from Shepparton.

Fair enough. I was told that rumba where nearly full strength. I'm rapt they won the flag. Great too see. Is cupes coaching again this year? He Is such a gifted player that man.
Far from being at full strength. Yep, his coaching again and has signed on for two years late last year. His doing a great job with the boys and his been great for the club.

:O wow what are u smoking! If a club had 100k to pay a coach you reckon they would give it to cupido !! That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard on here

How could a club possibly raise $100k for one player and be expected to pay the others as well as pay regular club expenses. These figures get thrown around too loosely and rumour becomes fact. Only insiders would really know what goes on.

That's rich BK, pardon the pun. Not to go over old ground but you can't tell me Bogetii the year before played for peanuts?? And I know for a fact Reid Crowe wasnt playing for a pie and coke last year!! But why stop there, lets add some extra Mayo on it and say Cupido was paid 120k just for the home and away and extra for finals lol! Tool!!..... But you make a good point re the cats being consistent over that time, but maybe the reason they have been the bridesmaid and not the bride is because of there unwillingness to spend???

I don't think quality of players cost Finley the premiership , I think Finley did not take the game on they shut up shop after half time and rumba started believing in their ability

To tell the truth. A fair few of the guys at Deni actually do play for a pie and a coke! Unless they win they will get $50 per win. Some guys are on money and its hell of a lot less then what they have been offered by surrounding clubs. (PDFL clubs) the way country footy has become the clubs hand has been forced player payment wise. Luckily the culture at the Rams is one that deserves a lot of respect and the players love to play at the club.

Loyalty and team first attitude , are first things needed for success

I believe rumba were just simply a better side.. I'm sorry but if Finley could only play 2 good quarters out of 8 against rumba(including first final) rumba simply out played Finley when it mattered.. Credit to Finley for starting the gf well tho

I know that sounds a bit simplistic but it is reality.. No one has acknowledged that rumba lifted. It's always Finley stopped!!

It gets me how clubs continue to reject the fact they pay players. Ive been involved with a number of clubs at player recruitment level and all spend around the same mark. I have applied for coaching jobs with clubs and all have around the same budget. I personally have tried to recruit out of the Rams and Finley only to find out the player is akready on more money than we offered. Last year I offered a certain 6 foot 4 left footed ex Deni Rovers ruckman good money to come to Jerilderie only for him to be offered the same amount at the Rams. I have no problem with clubs recruiting and paying for players, the amount of money is getting out of hand but it is a fact of life. I do have a problem with clubs continuing to say they don't pay players. Either you have your head in the sand or there are 2 or 3 blokes at the club working extremely hard behind the scenes to earn cash money because there is money going out the door at every club to players.

Your spot on Mac, every club is spending some more than others. It's the way country footy is. Not gonna change anytime soon.
I didn't hurt the murray league last yr, was probably the most even comp in the state.
Saying that you'll always have the loyal club servants that aren't even interested in the money. A good mixture of both makes for a successful club and club culture.
As for Deni they do have great club culture and a really well organized Jnr program.

The Rams are a great club and have produced an amazing number of talented kids. Im in no way bagging them out. You can't have the success the Rams have had over the years without running a good show. When your locals are willing to travel back time and time again you must be doing something right. All im saying is they are not playing for KFC vouchers.

I never said they didn't pay player Mac. The player on question is probably on good $$$ I doubt it is as much as he was offered from clubs around the area. I know Wakool offered him a sh1t ton more than the rams. Same goes for the big guy from blighty that has come across. As for the junior guns that we are brought through our system they have been offered and this is no joke $1000+ a game from some teams. They are compensated well from our club. A couple of locals in particular have even knocked back good offers from the club so that the money could be used on brining new guys in. The clubs big recruits are always guys from around the area and if they are not they are ex locals. The last guy who was paid at the club but not a local was the coaches cousin!

I never said the club doesn't pay! At least they pay the right way. Keep the locals. Give the ones that move away enough to drive home every weekend. Most the players will take a lot less then what they are "worth" because of how well they are treated at club. I cannot recall of many guys that come to the club and want to leave the next year. But shit I hear of a lot of guys that leave for a season and can't come back quick enough. The board at Deni are doing a great job. Credit where credit is due I think

As I said all credit to you guys, I was no way saying anything against the Rams the club does do a great job. As I mentioned in the my previous post if locals are willing to travel home year after year the club must be doing something right. $1000 a game for any player is a joke.

Well I respect people who are willing to acknowledge the good work others do trying to keep their clubs going for the benefits of their community. Can be bloody hard at times.

If money is being offered someone is doing the hard yards to make it. Isn't that worthy of credit as well. smaller community clubs have an important role to play for their respective tribes. Do what you have to do I say, just make sure you look after your own in the process.

All clubs pay that's never been questioned I think the argument is how much is paid. No club can have success with paying nothing at all

Doesn't your club have atleast 2 players on a grand a game ??? Very good players though.

How can you question how much. Don't you believe in arguing restraint of trade for players to be cleared??

Sour grapes. I argued that you think your judge , jury and executioner or that a club for that matter has the right to be. They lost the correct decision was made. Move on

No one is on that money I can tell you. The rumors may floating around but I can assure you they are not on anything near that. And the next best in on half that so don't believe all the rumors.

Fair enough. Thanks for clearing that up must be a couple of blokes over stating what they are being paid.
