Thanks for that Hank1.How are you boys shaping up for next season?

At this early stage things are looking good, spoke to a couple of key position GV players, and talks are very promising. Also a handful of ex-players to return should be on the cards, maybe one fairly high profile.
We are expecting to be around the finals mark next year without a doubt and to do that we need to recruit probably 3 key position players and an on-baller. Hopefully I can get out there and have a run also if I havent forgotten how to play.

I'm not being a smart alec here at all Hank but do you think you only need four players to make the finals next year?

It's a fair jump from bottom three to top 5-6.

There seems to be a lot of Tonny boys playing elsewhere. I imagine it's a priority to get them back to the club.

Thanks for that again. If you don't lose any and gain some then there will be improvement. I hope you get what you need.

no problem mate, just read the post as it states 3 key position and 1 on baller, and myself thats 5, . But yes of course we need a couple of fringe players on top of that. To be honest if we had of landed a CHF, CHB and onballer this year I have no doubt we would be with the Congupna's, Finley's and Toc's.
Our only key position player of note (Andrew Reid) wouldnt have played half our games through injury, including the last two games where we have not been acceptable.

Hank what did you think of Rumbalara on the weekend ?

Obviously Guthrie stood out and we new we would be hard pressed to contain him with Andrew Reid out. Atkinson was excellent and too quick for our midfielders.
They were much better at getting front and centre of packs and there ball handling in close were two things that they did much better than us.
Them kicking 10 goals in the 2nd 1/4 was the difference, there was no way back for us from there.

Good point, three good key position players would allow your young blokes to develop naturally rather than being thrown in the deep end. Five players is almost a quarter of a team.

Anyone know how Scotty Clancy and Benny Margery are travellin this year?

Margery been going well onball, very consistent, Clancy been playing CHB and doing well, got injured 2 weeks ago but should be right to resume shortly.

Re: Murray Football League

hey kanga fan man, any truth in the rumour that rumbalara have landed ken sheldon as a development officer with the club? they say that he will be heading up the recruitment department for next year and potential sponsors.

could be interesting times ahead for rumbalara next year if this is true.

That would be huge, the opportunities that players are going to get at Rumbalara will be enticement enough to get an influx of players. The alignment with Collingwood they have, allows Hickmont to be at the Lexus centre a couple of times a week and they have also had players going down there and training and also topping up for games.
Ken Sheldon would just be another feather in their cap.

And where are Rumbalara getting all this money? A club doesn't just have an ex VFL champion and St. Kilda assistant coach put his hand up to go to a club that he has never had any involvment with.

Government and Collingwood.

Exactly! That is the main problem with the system they have adopted. Do they seriously expect that a swag of money given to them by Collingwood and the Government is going to make them a strong, successful club? This will, and already has created a problem with having players come for the money, not for the fun of playing. Every other country footy club works hard to gain sponsorship from local business'. If 7 other clubs in and around the Shepparton area can secure sponsorship, I can't see why Rumbalara cant.

Re: Murray Football League

Rumba will play in the GV eventually due to the money increase... murray league is the stepping stone, what are the 7 clubs around the shapparton area? i think there would be more willo...

Re: Murray Football League

I see there were some lobsided results at the weekend.

Cobram kicking 1 point with United kicking 40 is shocking. I can't see what their excuse is, they have one of the biggest populations in the league. They must have huge issues.

Yeah that is what was said over the off season when all of this was unfolding, but the GV arn't too keen on Rumbalara joining their league. Just off the top of my head there is: Shepparton United, Shepparton Bears, Shepparton Swans, Shepparton East, Congupna, Mooroopna, Rumbalara, Dookie United and Katandra. So there's 9 buddy. Sorry that i wasn't so accurate first time round.

Cobram have really struggled this year with numbers, earlier this season they were only getting 5-10 players at training, the rest were just rocking up on a Saturday and getting a game. I also cannot see why they are struggling so much as they have been a strong club most other years. The boys over the river at Barooga are cruising well but many of their star players are not local. Although it was a humiliating loss for Cobram, Echuca United needed the percentage boost to get above Barooga on the ladder, and they well and truely acheived that!

Hey Willo, I play for Cobram. You guys were too strong for us. The seniors have really struggled for numbers and have alot of kids and reserves players playing. We should improve next year.

Hey Mate, I think I can remember playing on you. I did notice a few boys from the 3rds doubled up and had a run in the seniors, which is a very big ask. What position did i play on you?

I played in the guts. I'm pretty small. A couple did double up for seniors and two other thirds players were supposed to play but pulled out.
