any chance G.Hopkins as the specialist WK late order batsman

Miles Johnston from Lancefield would be a walk-up start in that side. Best spin bowler to grace the GDCA. Would often open the bowling with some outswingers at a fair pace before turning his hand to off-spin or leg-spin, pending on how he was feeling. Was also a pretty handy batsman, too.

Agree he was one of the premier spinners to play in the GDCA.

No room for a spinner in his side he wants to blast the opposition out.

Matt have a go at your side of the era.

Funny you should mention Glen...... I actually had him in but got talked around to Pud. Toss of the coin really both great glove men & both could bat. Pud maybe a little more hostile with the Bat when he got going !

Sorry pal no spinner for me....... Blast em out here so we wont need one !

Lancefield boys that I mused over were " The Farmer" Shannon, Russell Paterson & perhaps Micky Graham.

You got the "Mercenary" up for Lancefield in Johny Markham so dont push your luck !

Pretty hard to come up with a side when you've played a lot of lower order cricket but I think the squad would look a little like this.

Rob Belcher (Macedon)
Sean Huddle (Bacchus Marsh)
Mick Allen (Riddell)
Adam Johnstone (Woodend)
Geoff Pitts (Romsey)
Leon Cox (Romsey)
Heath Boffey (Sunbury)
Glenn Warner (Woodend)
Peter Lalor (Sunbury)
Heath Wadden (Riddell)
Dan Fisk (Riddell)
Steve Tucker (Romsey)
Rob Fowler (Wallan)
Steve Pike (Diggers Rest)
Shawn Smits (Macedon)

Apologies to those I've obviously missed.

As for my favourite player I never got to see in his prime, Mick Porter from Bacchus Marsh would probably be it from Peter "Farmer" Shannon.

Lancefield had some very good sides over the years. As unorthodox he was, Billy West was also a handy opening bat that opposition bowlers used to hate because he refused to get out.

And you NEVER NEVER EVER let these guys get their eye in !
Or you were in for a long day..... A huge chase..... & a few lost balls !

M. Porter. (Bacchus Marsh)
M. Loughnane. (Woodend)
N. Power. (Gisborne)
R. Thomas. (Riddell)
D. Durabdegovic. (Sunbury/Gisborne)
S. Platt. (Darley)
R. Borgelt. (Bacchus Marsh)
G. Kennedy. (Macedon)
O. Mueller. (Clarkefield)
R. Mcintyre. (Romsey)
G. Dodkins. (Macedon/Bacchus Marsh)

I cant believe no-one has mentioned me yet! I was going to wait until someone announced my name but i cannot wait. I am easily the best batsman in the comp! Hampered by a certain injury this year, but none the less, when i get the Power-Spot out i could eat Harmon alive! Just look in the paper next week, I'm predicting J Forrest 152n.o actually better make it 122n.o as its a one dayer and i am batting 5 against Riddell. Probably only get 10 overs.

As for Belcher - Played against Woodend 2nds earlier this year, made 2...

Probably being a bit generous to a few guys there Matt. Quite a few good honest cricketers there and others that have had only 1 good season, but very few who would exist in such rarified air.

Hard I admit, with such questions as if a bloke was a gun last decade and got 2 years out of himself in this decade, do you still pick him?

In my opinion this squad is probably a bit closer

Harman
Markham
Matt.Loughnane
Lalor
Belcher
A.Johnstone
D. Warner
S.Patterson
Huddle
S.Pike
Wadden

Some of these blokes probably only impacted for a couple of years but there are few who have been strong in this comp for the whole of the last decade. Lalor, Warner, Huddle, Wadden probably being the exceptions.

Probably a lack of really good consistent batsman this decade (top class ones) as well as keepers. And don't get me started on the spinners (thats why there are none)
But lots of quality all-rounders have been produced, and plenty of good quicks early in the decade.
You forget that A.Pike, dick jones and snigowski were around then, and Matthews was pretty handy as well.

I may have missed an obvious choice so don't shoot me if I have.

No room in your squad for McIntyre Omni, he couldn't have been too far off.

Also you seem to have made it when everyone just knows you by your nickname, in your squad alone:
Collis, Colonel, fat guts, and a couple of puds just from the ones I know. Plus the likes of Bulk, Gumboot, Sticks, Derv, Nail.

Or it might just mean you annoy s*&t out of everyone:
Rocket

Yeah very very good team you got there pal, couldn't fault a one, all good cricketers all in their own right to be sure ! :thumbsu:

Do you really think Matt was better than Mick though pal ?

How very true there mate......... I spose there are the odd exceptions though mate........ Most knew my knickname, but... ???? :(

& Robby Mac' was indeed very close... he had to be, he got me out enough ! But I finished up going for me big English buddy cause of his HUUUUUGE Heart ! & Dedication to the cause no matter what the conditions. And...... He was mean & angry too ! :thumbsu:

"Nail" is another that is very very stiff not to be in...... but I couldn't pick everyone !

ant baker has the bigggest cult following of any cricketer in bacchus marsh history. Slays women by the tonne and once texted a girl under the pretense of sex with just one word "lets?" haha... How can that be beat..

And here I was for all these years thinking my workmate Brewy is a Lancefield legend :(

Oh he is a Lancefield legend. Was a very handy opener, too. Could bat for hours. Unfortunately he just didn't score a massive bundle of runs. But he has been involved in some massive partnerships.

So you would pick Boff over Hughes, and Fisk over Grey. Not a Massive United fan but when I've played against these 4 players Hughes and Grey run rings around these 2.
