Think it's also that Brisbane was willing to put a multi year deal to him and ours may have only been a 1 year deal

Good luck to him up north

Yes great, got to fit in all the dregs we pick up somehow.

You wouldn't want to be drafted to Geelong at the moment. Even if you're from the area, go somewhere else and play then we'll get you back in when you're 30.

Plenty of spots & opportunities for the next gen coming thru - it's up to them to make the most of the chances when they present

One of the most bizarre things I have consistently read on here was the amazing potential that people thought Cockatoo had.

Should have moved him on 2 years ago.
Agree. In my mind Cockatoo left the club more than two seasons ago.

If what we heard during the season has any truth - that Cocky was not game to stretch himself for fear of injury - then he has some psychological hurdles to jump

Or he didn't want to risk whatever Brisbane had offered.
I'm a bit disappointment in this one. Seems we did all we could to make sure he got himself right and we won't see any benefit to that.
Oh well. We move on.

I felt the same about Menzel.

People are glossing over the fact that he was fit basically all of this season and didn't get close to selection. I think the likes of Stephens and Evans were closer to debuting than Cockatoo getting a game. Either he was holding back or he's just not in our best, what, 35? Either way we're not missing out on much based on his output over the past few years. Hope he does well at Brisbane but you'd have to think it's unlikely.

Didn't he want two years and our offer was one?

Seemed to be over his leg issues this year. 24 year old aggressive brute with speed. Absolute steal by the Lions for a future third-round pick. We'll rue the day we gifted him to the Lions.
It is a steal if he comes good. But a one year deal was entirely fair given his pathetic return to us so far.

The underperformance of Menzel and Cockatoo are really sad. Both were genuine X factor types who could have been anything.

I really hope we see cockatoo realise his potential at Brisbane. I would genuinely like to see him tear it up.

You are very altruistic and commendable. . I am a bit peeved that all this time he has given us nothing, and that he needs a change of team and state to suddenly tear it up.
Plus Lions are a real threat to be up there for some time.
But better them than Tigers or Hawks, so not a total downer for me.

With Bundy retiring, I don't think we ever saw his best; Cocky is purported to be a more special player, but I have never seen that materialise apart from a half against the hapless Blues a few years ago.

I'd put a multi year deal to the rehab coach up at Brisbane so we can turn our injury failures into actual players with careers.

He’s not injured. Neither was Linc when he left. Their medical team didn’t do anything.
And neither was Vardy

The interesting part in the discussion about how Brisbane apparently perform miracles with injured players is the complete silence on Marcus Adams since he headed north - 10 games last year & 1 this year, and not because he was overlooked due to the form of others

Kinda sick of this myth. Cocky will play a couple of games for them, and everyone will say their medical team fixed him. Disregarding he has been injury free since early in the season.

Think he'll do more than that. His leg injuries didn't seem to be a major bother this year. Attitude may have been.

The Lions bagged a big, aggressive (haven't had one since the 'Wrecking Ball departed), quick, game changer and got him for SFA.

There's never been any evidence that he's any kind of game changer. At all.

By the time the season starts it will have been three years since he last played senior footy. Combined with the fact he's only managed six consecutive games since he was drafted, I'd be stunned if he puts together half a season, let alone a full one.

Gee who could have guessed this would happen... We have a serious issue with keeping injured players on our list forever and then dumping them for nothing at the end.. Wells dropped the ball big on these higher draft picks...

How he didn’t see getting rolled over by another player for a pcl injury that took away 12 games I’ll never know.
Go Catters

The pcl was understandable. An impact injury.

The continual pinged hammies is a different matter. Suggestions he was holding back running speed to protect them, so he could move to qld for a 2 yr contract. I’m still not fully convinced those hamstrings will last. Time will tell.

It will be interesting to see.
