It's funny how things go - if we'd only known, we could've picked a different type.
Then again, we might've ended up with a homesick McCarthy...
Homesick? I guess you could call being offered triple your current salary homesickness....

Homesick? I guess you could call being offered triple your current salary homesickness....
Yes, that would make me very ill...
I guess the $$$ carrot is there, although the go home factor also kicks in.
If we had McCarthy, would we match an offer from the west?? Probably not.
If Scharenberg was offered the same amount (as McCarthy) by Adelaide, I dare say, he would have departed.
A combo of $ & home...

If Freeman can get his body right then I believe he could be exactly what my club needs.

Does anyone know how bad his hammies are? Rob Harvey had massive hammy issues at the beginning of his career but overcame them.

Reading through this thread it seems a three way deal involving Aish to you guys is on the cards. Eg your second & Freeman compensation to the Lions for Aish. Personally, I hope we keep our second rounder so ideally our third & a fringe player to the Lion.

Eg
Pies
Gain Aish
Lose Freeman & 2nd rounder

Saints
Gain Freeman
Lose 3rd rounder & fringe player

Lions
Gain 2nd & 3rd rounder & fringe player
Lose Aish

Of course the more simpler scenario is we get Freeman with our 2nd, which you pass onto the Lions.

Wow! And the Saints are the big winner!
How about the saints giving up there 2nd round draft pick?
I am sure the Lions would find 2 second rounders much more appealing! Plus Seedsmam

How about we keep Freeman and forget about Aish?
According to these figures Aish has the worst kicking efficiency in the competition in his position.
I got this table from the AFL web site.
Everyone is saying that Aish is silk.
This does not suggest that.
What am I missing????

If however Freeman decides to stay for unders that is brilliant, but if Treloar and Aish arrive over the summer, and Crisp, De Goey and Adams continue their fine form, on top of obviously Pendles, Greenwood, Sidey, Broomy and Swan, even if he dominates the VFL, he may have to wait until an injury occurs to make a break through into the seniors, and that obviously is never assured. At the Saints it could be a matter of weeks to crack their senior team.

There are always Back and Forward Flanks and Pockets if we are too deep with midfielders. Pendlebury has played a few games at the end of the year on the Half Back Flank, and Sidebottom I think should go forward, because he was annoying me as a mid this year. DeGoey too is a great forward, because he has that defensive tenacity to lock the ball into our forward line.

There are always injuries and poor form happening. And I think we should look at rotating a bit more in and out of the side based on performance. It is damaging when someone like Elliott plays a few weeks and doesn't get a touch, and no change is made. Players get niggles, give them a break if they are struggling.

Swan should only play every second game, he is awesome when fresh, but hard to keep fresh week in week out as a 30 year old.

Na

Having crisp and Cripps in the same team would be too confusing

I ran into Jack Crisp at the Australian Open just after we recruited him.
Said hello, was not certain what his surname was at the time.
Wasn't 100% certain it was him and because I wasn't certain of his name had to ask:
'You're the new Collingwood player". He said Yes.
Then I just gave him my best wishes for upcoming season and told him I hope he is in best 22.
Felt like a d1ck for confusing the surname and having a brain fade.

[A] physio who was a physio at the Dogs for many years and also at the dons and still has great insight into the industry...her understanding from physio mates in the industry [is] that [Freeman] was miss-managed in his first year... and...in all likelyhood he will continue to have hamstring problems for the rest of his career. This was late last year. [This physio] mentioned that it was quite well know in the industry that our players last year were pushed too hard.

Talent identification and drafting is notoriously HIT and MISS and you seem to be trying to make a case that our recruiters have done a poor job but the results from the past three drafts don't support your argument:

2012
18 Grundy - HIT
19 Kennedy - uncertain but probably a MISS
20 Broomhead - HIT
38 Ramsay - HIT

2013
6 Scharenberg - HIT
10 Freeman - MISS
65 Langdon - HIT
77 Marsh - HIT

2014
5 DeGoey - HIT
9 Moore - HIT
30 Maynard - HIT
48 Goodyear - uncertain but probably a MISS

Additionally, we've had quite a bit of success in the last three rookie drafts, picking up:
  • Marley Williams - HIT
  • Sam Dwyer - HIT
  • Adam Oxley - HIT
  • Jack Frost - HIT
  • The Big Show - MASSIVE HIT
  • Mason Cox - uncertain

It's no secret that their load increased and it did result in soft tissue injuries to those well below the fitness levels required to play AFL. Buttifant's training program was dated and the Pies are extremely fitter this year. Freeman's hamstring is a worry, but not unusual for a junior who has a more powerful quad to hamstring ratio

Big night for Freeman with Dingley taking home the SFL Div 1 premiership.
Indeed, the Club actually won 3 Grannys in 2 days, not a bad effort.

Had a good chat to Nathan today and he dead set doesn't know what the future holds. 50/50 is the best I could get out of him.
Money has nothing to do with it and it's all about opportunity. He's worried that with us getting Treloar and Aish, yes he's convinced we're getting him too, he'll have his work cut out. While with the aints he'd just about be a walk up starter immediately. Obviously I did tell him to back himself in and pointed to the facts we do need a line breaker and Swanny is getting on but he already knew that.. He's having another sit down with Bucks in the next couple of days and it will all flow on from there. His hammies are good by the way and I for one would be fairly gutted to see such a decent kid go.

I still believe we should be prepared to bend a little in order to keep Freeman.

His skill set is still needed and no reason why we can't land Aish and keep him.

Kennedy is really the one who is going to struggle breaking into the 22 with the addition of Treloar and the emergence of Freeman or obtaining of Aish.

I like him but if we could exchange him and perhaps a 3rd rd pick for a second rd pick it might be best for player and club.

Spot on swoop42 , he actually thinks Kenno will be seeking greener pastures for the same reason, reckons Manteit was fairly stiff to be delisted and thinks the only reason we've kept Goodyear is the 2 year contract. And none of this comes as surprise to me.
That's about covers it.
