And people wonder about Canberra??????
First place I have ever lived in that shut grounds due to rain. It is a winter sport and weather is just part of it.
Yes I do live in Canberra.
Unbelieveable.

It's all about money and 'risk management' these days. The cost of ground repairs, and the potential cost of a lawsuit from a serious injury caused by the ground conditions.
I guess they call horse races off when the track's too heavy, so I guess we have to accept it and live in the times...but yes One 4, it wouldn't have happened in our day! As a fullback, I loved the wet when I knew the full forward hated it.

Given Qbn have no money and nor do Belconnen this season (did they not lose players due to to being asked to take pay cuts) I would find this hard to believe

I wouldn't be worried about budgets up North! ACT clubs have to pay the League affiliation Fees, Sydney/Qld clubs do not.

The AFL fund Football Managers for Sydney/Qld teams, but not in ACT.

This would have to be $100k difference straight up.

And Redlands managed to scratch together some pennies to fly one on their coaches down last week to watch Ainslie.

Don't cry poor to us.

Grounds being closed at NEAFL level?? This would NOT happen in any other genuine Tier 2 state league competition. We have a very long way to go if this sort of thing continues to happen.

As well as what Michael says, the grounds in Sydney used for NEAFL are mostly controlled by councils, whereas in Melbourne (where I come from), the AFL gets a good say on how the better grounds are used.
It's getting better in Sydney as the AFL splashes around rivers of cash on ground improvements and buys influence. But that takes a while.

Not sure how it works in Canberra but I imagine Ainslie and Eastlake can pretty much control their grounds. And Qbn probably has a bigger say since they stumped up some cash for the ground improvements at Dairy Farmers.

Via some mates involved at Sydney uni I have heard that Queanbeyan did everything in their power to get the game to go ahead hence the change of days

Also it seemed that Ainslie v Redlands was under threat from groundsman at Ainslie but common sense prevailed when Redlands told Ainslie were on our way so get it sorted

Unfortunately, despite Eastlake throwing up several other options to Belconnen they were more than happy to move the game to later in year given the state of their current playing list & accepted the decision to postpone from ground closure without any effort to find a solution

NEAFL needs to get this situation sorted ASAP and get some control & contingency plans in place otherwise our comp will not be taken seriously

We have had a heap of rain here in West Sydney but all go here

Go Eages against Southport -I'm tipping an upset

Am currently in Darwin on business and off to watch nt v Aspley tonight, if hornets win it will be a remarkable effort, the humidity is near on unbearable and nt team is 3 players better than there team last week, but nothing will surprise me from the craftsman, coach Blair!

MY TIPS
NT
SHARKS
REDLANDS
LIONS
QUEANBEYAN
UWS
EASTL

Great win by NT last night to hold on after Aspley challenged late. Was a very good standard match they do a great job with their live stream.
Redlands held on for a strong win over Ainslie, Southport comprehensive over Eagles and Lions a massive win over Suns. Eastlake will now enter round 3 having not played a match. Will this significantly disrupt their preparation?

Some huge matches next week headlined by Southport Vs Aspley which should be a great contest.
