NEAFL- 2014

Perko did u post this after you had 10 pints at the bees after a great victory..i didn't understand half of it!!! And who is Dogey!!!
Game of the year coming up this Sunday..promote the hell out of it and let's get a great crowd to Graham Rd..

Sorry Dogwarna,

It seems you are a little thinned skinned and also from the Southport region, where the Sun shines via NT Thunder, no Dogwarna its not Perko, give the younger Billy, a few more credited trams and trains than that I have a real Job outside of anything Football related, maybe you should read what's written more slowly or a bit more openly to understand the writings of us, being intrigued with the youth of the game tomorrow!!!!!

I agree, this could well be the game of the year Dogwarna, (I am sorry for the Dogey line earlier and to you also Perko, that you were even considered smart enough to be able to think of this, if this offended you, I am sorry, but in my life's teachings, names it seems are only badges, its what you do with your life and actions through this time of being given that badge, this what makes your mark in the world) without a any great honor apart from bragging writes, which the Bombers have had for the last 6 NEAFL Games played against Aspley and the 4 very important premiership points on offer.

I hope you are there to enjoy it, even if you, on the day choose to be barracking for the Bombers (as I am sure your South of the River upbringing would instill your passion to be less than supportive against the Bees) on this occasion, lets hope it gets the cudios it deserves with the NEAFL???

Hope you survive. He is a bit a scared cow with some here.
Unfortunate injury to Brewer robbed me of his tussle
with the Aspley two . On a different note I note some are touting him as a Afl ruckman . Seriously this ruckman template was thrown out in the 80s . He would have to get a lot fitter than currently as the best ruckman are now very mobile . He may be just getting serious about his footy but there is little time left .

Vicman,

I don't think ruck man was ever in the mix in this debate - Mick Nolan (RIP) type, big man utility, as a draftee was always an option from mine, he, Mitch Brewer, has got something lacking in most big men, that I have seen playing presently in the AFL system and those that I have ever played on in the game "THE REAL HEART" to be able to play the game, he has always hated losing and he hates to be beaten, put the heart of the overlooked pint sized Fremantle Docker Ballantyne, at Draft age into any "name of most current AFL players over 6' 8", due to any future or further ridicule towards me, I won't name any particular player as such) and this guy would be a shoe in to play 200 + games in the current system IMO.

Don't let his current weight put you off his untapped tried ability, AFL Clubs shift weight off young blokes like Money off sponsors, he, like another player (lets call him Zo--o the great) at his old club Broadbeach, for some apparent reason now, has to show the world that then and now they have got Saintly virtues to maybe get a gig at the AFL Level, wake up recruiters, especially here in QLD and draft the kids that can play, rather that those that might be able to play, he has played AFL Footy all of his life give the kid a chance as currently I believe he has played the game all of his young life with a passion and he still lives and plays 5 KMS in a second tier competition from the Suns Palace, forgive me for for asking how many NEAFL Games their reserve side have they won this year? Oh that's right none. WTF!!!!!!

*Footnote* I have always despised Broadbeach, Labrador (Sorry again LAB but it is your thread) and Southport Footy club's for many reasons, but lets say in this post mainly because of the area in Australia as an envy, as the best place in all of the world to play our great game in, as a North of the Brisbane River player and Supporter, but this kid not only IMO needs for all to see, but deserves a chance at the AFL System and all doubters (which there seems many) can line up together and eat very hot humble pie, he could be, if given that chance the very real deal.
Mitch is a lot smarter than than a lot of so called good AFL players to ever be given a chance before him and who have failed, due to the lack of intestinal fortitude, which Mitch in every outing that I have ever seen has shown, he has an abundance of.

A 125/1 winning chance is a big win for all players and fledgling footy clubs when it comes up, again IMO get your money on him as a big man of the future!!!!

Ok, I am going to go out on a limb here and having a crack at predicting the final 6. We are now roughly at the half way point with many sides having played 9 games each with a few on 10 and 8. I have had a look at the complete draw for the remainder of the year and predicted the likely winner for each game going on season form. I'm not taking into consideration any upsets that will occur.

Anyway I have it looking like this.

1: Swans - predicting them to win 8 out of their last 9 games
2: GWS - predicting them to win 7 out of their last 9 games
3: Redland - predicting them to win 7 out of their last 10 games
4: Aspley - predicting them to win 7 out of their last 9 games (based on current form)
5: Ainslie - predicting them to win 7 out of their last 9 games
6: Southport - predicting them to win 7 out of their last 9 games

I have the NT Thunder dropping out of the current Top 6 with them only winning 4 of their remaining 8 games.

Ladder as per the below based on my predictions and using current percentages.

POSTEAMPWLPTS%
1Sydney Swans1816264233.6%
2UWS Giants1814456206.8%
3Redland1814456144.7%
4Aspley1813552181.3%
5Ainslie1813552126.4%
6Southport1812648129.0%

BB,
well said,,, great post. Big Mitch,, is one big unit, doesn't possess the perfect physique, but don't let this fool you. ( very deceptive watching from the sideline)
He has incredible strength, is very agile for a man his size, is a excellent kick of the footy, both long kicks, kicking for goal, and short passes with accuracy. His ruckwork has developed over the past 3 seasons big time, and he covers a lot of yards on the field come match day.His dedication is second to none, and this season he moved over to Southport due to the NEAFL restructure, and something many would not know...... he lives with his parents down in northern NSW. Thus he travels say at least 3 days a week for training and one day for match day.. round trip wise this would amount to some 500 plus klms weekly. Now that is very demanding and shows his dedication.
I feel he is a guy that has the ability to step up and perform at a higher level, he has that potential.Im not saying he could make the elite level, but certainly needs the chance. Over the past 3 seasons in games he has well beaten guys like Billy Longer, Will Wolbers,Tom Hickey etc. Just ask some of these NEAFL ruckmen, and they will tell you how hard it is playing against Mitch.
Funny isn't it, that his home AFL clubs, (suns and lions) have a guy like this at their hands, but
haven't taken a serious interest in him, yet they are screaming now due to long term injuries that have occurred to their listed ruckmen. And interstate clubs be it Essendon, Collingwood and Footscray are very much interested in him and closely watching his progress.
AS I said, even if he got the chance, he may well not make the cut, but certainly is close to be given a chance.
Just not good news for Mitch if his knee injury sustained last week is serious.!!!!

Last week I happened to attend the Queanbeyan V Sydney Hills as a water boy for the away team.. I must say what a beautiful ground at dairy farmers with a great set up. As soon as walked in from the southern end I was wowed could see the grandstand set over the picturesque field surrounded by suburbia..once walking toward the change rooms I noticed the plaques of past players that have played over 200 games for the club and their accomplishments there was one Michael gosier plaque (which I imagine is the same big footy poster here) and upon reading a fair few of these I started to get a real sense that this is a very proud club, then walking abit further down the path I noticed about 10 or so flagpoles which I thought was strange for a footy club and with a closer inspection I realised it was for their past flags that they have won. I was extremely impressed by these things as in my comp that I play in there is pretty much nothing of this kind..it was a big day for both clubs with a tigers player playing 200 games and dimery from syd hills in his 250th.. The game started and by midway through the 1st qtr looked as though syd hills were going to run away with it but all day the tigers kept coming back and staying within striking distance and in the last quarter it seemed as though the tigers were going to snatch the victory, but it was to be with the eagles holding on for a 9 point win..it was a great day for footy with the best for tigers would easily be their no.4 and their no.14, 19 and 1 were very good as well, for the eagles Jericho kicked 8 as the best for for his team closely followed by weeks and dragacevic and ferguson...
All in all I really enjoyed my day at the ground canteen was good too and even picked up a tigers training shirt which the lady lady was very confused about as I was in hills eagles gear hahaha also I'm going to have to drop out of the tipping as I keep forgetting about the tips and not the fact that I'm coming dead last I swear

Quenbeyan easily sits as one of the best football clubs/grounds I have had the pleasure to visit for all of the above reasons. The nostalgia throughout their dressing rooms is just fantastic. One of the best speeches I have ever read by a club champion pinned on the wall (which i tried to photograph to take with me but not to be!!) when he played his 300th game I think it was. With a mates boy now involved at the Tigers in the U11's or thereabouts he has nothing but praise for it as a footy club.

You have done a lot of work CHOOK, and I'm impressed. Not only that but I agree with your assessment too !... Swans and GWS to finish on top, three QLD teams and Ainslie to make it, Thunder and Sydney Uni to fall short.

The finals could get a bit interesting - Swans and GWS are severely handicapped with player eligibility and that will play into the hands of the others and bring them back into contention.
Interesting also to see how the Swans approach it, seeing as they will be favourites; Jarryd Crouch (coach) was interviewed on NEAFL TV and said that the Swans weren't fussed about winning finals because the reserves existed only to serve the needs of the Senior team and would sacrifice the reserves as required. In the past, they have pulled out of the finals altogether after finishing the final home and away round as minor premiers.
But they made it a priority last year didn't they ?

Doesn't surprise me that Jarryd gave this feedback in an interview. Not sure he gives a stuff about the competition to be honest and his response reeks of arrogance. It's a pretty big slap in the face to the NON AFL clubs who are doing everything they can week in and week out to compete and win. Not sure why we should persist with the current competition if this is going to be the attitude of the 4 AFL clubs. And I am sure that the others think along the same lines. The least that he / they could do is to humour us and pretend that they take it seriously. Surely that's not too much to ask for!

Welcome to the wonderful world of NEAFL Chook.
You just have to go the huddles of Swans or UWS (only AFL huddles I've been to) to see that they're just not interested in their opponents (though I bet the GC Suns Reserves would welcome a win or two to give them credibility !) The Swans and UWS are dedicated to supporting the big teams, and the non-AFL teams are just witches hats...I don't think that's arrogance, it's just their job and their place in the scheme of things.
They are training up "understudies" like happens in the theatre, jigsaw pieces that can slot into the jigsaw hole that is left when a senior player is unavailable...totally focussed on their own players, and their own structures. It's all very robotic, repetitive and mechanical....watch their warmup training drills to see how it's mostly set plays.
I don't think they care enough to humour us or pretend that they take it seriously.

Then it makes me wonder, like you do, about why the non-AFL clubs even bother....I've heard their answers and they're fair enough but it doesn't make me want to give up my time or my money to be a part of it all.
But I DO LIKE watching a good game of NEAFL.

Interesting also that none of the Qld teams will get a chance to gauge themselves against the two Sydney AFL sides until finals time. We should at least have the opportunity to play them once in the home and away matches.

I'd like to know Chook how you divvied up the wins when Aspley play Redlands or Southport etc. One risk for the Qld sides is that they are beaten out of the finals by each other and giving Thunder or Uni a sniff based on your analysis (which I also find impressive).

thunder have a pretty tough draw remaining and face all 4 AFL clubs home and away this year.

they played the Sawns with 20 listed players and GWS put out 22 listed players, both of those sides away and back to back, with GWS after a 3 day trip home with at least 1 night staying in an airport and then back to Sydney.

i'll give you a hint about the odds of ANY of the NEAFL clubs beating essentially AFL sides. the number is very Very VEry VERy VERY close to 0. in fact any of the NEAFL sides getting within 10 goals of those two sides as constituted would be some sort of miracle. justabaracker claimed thunder went ok against sydney and lost by 14 goals. they were competitive for 1.5 qtrs against GWS and then got blown the **** away after that.

i cannot see how that would be any better than playing southport, aspley and redlands.

Thanks for the shout out miksmif, yep that's me on one of the plaques. An achievement I'm very proud of and one that hopefully my kids, and their kids to come can remember me by one day. We are indeed a very proud club with strong roots in history and tradition being big parts of our culture. We are celebrating 90 years this year and while our results on the field aren't quite what we were hoping for so far, the club is forging ahead off the field with improvements to the change rooms and grandstand really making our ground one of the best suburban grounds around. Cheers, Gois

Hey smy, we've got quite a few plaques and memorable quotes from club legends around our club rooms. Let me know where the one you are talking about was and I'd be happy to get a photo of it for you. Always more than happy to share our proud history. Cheers, Gois

I think Michael it was from a guy who was playing his 300th and it revolved around what football clubs are made of - not bricks and mortar, facilities, brand new dressing sheds but people. It was along these lines. Really resonated with me.

JAB,,
WELL SAID, VERY CORRECT..

The one you are referring to is from club legend and games record holder Tony Wynd who played 347 first grade games, 40 rep games and won four Mulrooney Medals. On the occasion of his 300th game he said: "It’s not the bricks and mortar that make a good Club. A quality Club needs quality people and the Tigers Club have plenty of those."

Some other quotes are on our web page at: http://tigersclub.com.au/footballclub/about-2/notable-quotes-from-tiger-legends/

I have Aspley beating Redland twice at Home and losing to them away. I have Aspley losing to the Thunder away and Aspley beating Southport away.

I have Redland losing to Aspley twice away and beating them at home. I have them losing to Thunder away and beating Southport away. This is based on current form.

I have Southport losing to both Aspley & Redland at home and winning all other games. They could easily beat either or both of Aspley & Redland. I think Southport have a very good draw.

I have the Thunder winning 4 out of their remaining 5 home games only losing to the Swans. Although Aspley or Redlands could beat them up there on their day. I have the Thunder losing all of their remaining 3 away games including the Lions beating them.

I also have Uni only winning 3 of their last 9 games and believe they will finish 3 games out of the Top 6

Anyway that's how I have formed my opinions. I can guarantee I don't get all of my tips correct but it's the best guide for me to be able to predict the final 6.

It also looks like a quality draw for the QLD teams for the 2nd half of the season with some cracking games.

After watching Redlands play on the weekend I am confused as to how Estall still has a spot in that team. On ballers like Thomson and Grewar look lively in front of goal as a small forward option and it would open up space for a talent such as Adam Boon to get back in the team who I believe who offer more options around the ground.
Boon cant play at that level Estall is better
