Opinion Negativity In The Port Adelaide Supporter Base

On the back of 5 years of failure, every single Port supporter should be negative and looking to convert any positive one they come across.
No, they shouldn't, and that's exactly what I'm against. People use to get mad at me for trying to dictate peoples thoughts so why should you?

Once again you miss my point. This is not the way we should be treating all of our supporters, There are people who have an equal lack of faith in Ken, but they barely talk about, Do we have to talk about Ken every single time we talk about something Port related? No

This is what happens when a club burns through its goodwill and football capital at every turn.

A kid who started Reception in 2007 is about to wind up Year 12 having seen a combined 2 seasons of seriously good footy. And even that was punctuated by a record Grand Final defeat.

It’s not just Ken, it’s everything.

Except whereas John James, Greg Boulton, Choco, Mark Haysman, Brett Duncanson and Matthew Primus were forced to run on the smell of an oily rag, the current regime and their chosen man have never been better equipped to capitalise on returning Port to footy’s top table.

Instead, the supporter base and the very essence of the club is being gaslighted with revelations that “you either win or you lose”, “it’s a tough game” and “lil’ club from Alberton” amidst dire football, questionable off-field moves and constant disappointment.

It’s long since become unacceptable, and any concerted discontent is completely and utterly justified.

Don’t like it? Okay, but don’t hold your breath expecting the ship to turn around with the current architects firmly cemented into their seats.

I love posting about Port, but sometimes the tone of this forum can make me just leave it alone for days at a time.

We get it, we're dissatisfied with Ken. I'm reminded every second post. It's turned into a high volume, low effort circle jerk. He could do literally anything and you'd have 12 posters jumping on with some dumb comment. Guess what guys, you can't make a reliable assessment of someone's thoughts, motives and desires based on the fact they're drinking Coke Zero.

I think people need to step back and assess whether or not what they're posting is actually relevant, humourous or insightful or if it's just another rehashed argument about how Ken is the spawn of Satan.

Prove he isn’t.

Jokes aside, he is a human being and I think sometimes we need to remember that. I've seen multiple occasions of posters wishing harm to Ken. We can't be in support of causes like beyond blue but also tolerate that attitude. Just because he is not doing his job well doesn't mean we should wish him harm. At the end of the day, the Port Adelaide coaching role is a job. Doing poorly at your job gets you sacked, not lynched.

No you are absolutely right. We should just sit here with our arms folded firmly. Because if you can't find something nice to say about our season then you really shouldn't say anything at all. Stiff upper lip and all that. Goodness gracious it is only a game after all. Stop complaining people and just endure.

Sorry what do you actually think supporters of the club should do if they are absolutely horrified at the mismanagement of our club? I'm curious. We are not allowed to yell at the football anymore lest we offend someone and get the behavioural adjustment team on it, we shouldn't complain on a footy forum, but are we allowed to sigh loudly?

Most workplaces if you aren't doing your job properly you are getting bitched about exactly like this and then you get sacked.

It's contagious and like a virus it can end up infecting and affecting all levels of the club.
Case in point tomorrow night's game. 2 txts and 2 emails spruiking bring a buddy or 22hours for $22 offer.
We are back home after 4 weeks or whatever. Even Ollie post the Magpies game was laying it on thick
"an honour to wear this famous jumper, great to play our traditional rival Norwood at home in front of our fans".
It all adds up to a club that knows it's trodden on our toes too often. They'd be monitoring all sorts of indicators
and clearly they are down.

It's embarrassing even cringeworthy that one man can have such an effect on so many others.
As if KT wants to agonise on what new angle to pump up. They are clearly worried about tomorrow night's crowd.
The march numbers are down and I'd guess merchandise sales are too. The drop in membership is a red flag
and heaven knows what next year will bring. The back lash to co-captains could seep in.
They knew it was on the cards pre christmas but sat on it for months so as to minimise it's inevitable impact.

Frankly compared to most other clubs Port have been lucky the fan's loyalty and patience has lasted this long.
I'll be there tomorrow for the march shouting chanting and singing in the mall especially if there's a spruiker.
I'll sing my guts out for NTUA but I'm just about numb of passion or excitement.
Expecting a loss and I'll feel as tho' I'm just going thru' the motions. The fire isn't burning very bright nowadays.

Maybe I've got a virus.

Wishing harm? That’s clearly not on, but I haven’t seen it. Not saying it doesn’t exist, pro sports fans are an emotional breed.

I am against Ken as our coach. But there's a difference between attacking the club and the position of coach because they are underperforming, and attacking Ken Hinkley the person. I love reading long analysis posts from people like Janus and tribey and El_Scorcho because they are clearly well researched and actually look into the footy or administration side of things. I hate reading the bevy of posts that follow after Hinkley does some mundane shit that has nothing to do with his coaching.

You're saying workplace gossip is a good thing and that we should do it? Because I certainly don't.

It could be really well cleaned up by the mods, which is good.

I am saying it is a fact of life. If you are expecting an internet forum to be of a higher standard than most Australian worksites then good luck.

It's not a fact of life to be threatened for not doing your job properly, or to have every action portrayed in a negative light. Certainly not in Australia. Why would you just accept that as being OK?

Sorry who is threatening Hinkley? All i have read and perhaps it is reading what i want to read is wanting Hinkley out of the club.

Most of us have wanted him to succeed because we did like him but the longer this has gone on people just want him out.

People would like him moved onto Carlton or North .. is that the kind of threats you are talking about?

Because i personally wanted him to go to another club as a senior coach as a win/win situation but if not that then I want him moved sideways in our club until he can be replaced. How is that threatening?

What you just said wasn t threatening.

In: enough rope for ken to hang himself

This is on the first page of the Changes vs Geelong thread. It's been up there for the best part of a week. Shit like that is what I think isn't on.

I was all sunshine and roses about Port Adelaide when I joined this forum, but the negative commentary on here has gradually turned me into a disbeliever of the current regime....through reason, acute observation and corroboration of my experiences with the club in recent years.

A good post with weight, but it doesn't answer my question.
There are many more faithful supporters out there than you think. Most of them don't use Bigfooty of course, but the fact is most supporters have a fixed mindset, they either go to the football with positivity or they don't go at all, but until the attendances start dropping below 30k on average then I think that's an indication that we still have faithful supporters. I would like to think that people who really hate the state of our club that much wouldn't bother going.

It's a simple case of If they don't like it they won't watch it, you're far better off speaking with your wallet instead of your keyboard if you want things to change.

I will answer this then i will cease and desist because i am not sure you are able to think coherently.
I am really unclear how i was threatening in my post saying i wanted Hinkley to get another senior coaching position at another club or move to a different position in Port until his tenure was up. My goodness i just can't see the threat.

Secondly there are these things called idioms they are words or phrases that are not meant to be taken literally. For example 'give someone enough rope to hang themselves' does not mean that we want to bring back hanging in Australia but simply means that someone will feel the effects of their own foolish actions and that will be their downfall

Also I hate people wishing on us to lose so it makes Ken's position more untenable. The entire basis of being a football supporter is wanting a particular club to win.

I said you weren't threatening.

I've never heard of that being used as an idiom, ever. It also has nothing to do with bringing back hanging, it means Ken should kill himself. And even if it is a joke (a poor one), it conveys no tone whatsoever.

I too am baffled - baffled! - by the supporter base's negativity at the moment.

I'm baffled by people's inability to differentiate between a position and a person.
