He was great preasure wise in deffence and running lose around the backline, outstanding. However I hope we play him forward as well like we saw today. He still has the freakishness in him to score freakish goals and also set up goals. Overall very pleasing performance from him today.

He was back to his normal self today.

He needs to play forward against the better sides though.

This week Jetta could have kicked 4-6 goals on him, and had over 20 disposals, not good enough from a defensive standpoint.

Next week, Leon and Dick up forward, Ben Johnson back in a defensive role, PLEASE.

I just don't know putting him back in the forward line is a smart idea given he is going so well in the back-line and that the pocket forward role is a very hard one (a confidence one) that Kraks and Dick have under pat if in form. I also think your making assumptions on Jetta when Davis played a very good game against him. I'd like him to stay in defence.

Dermie's ego knows no limits. He is still trying to justify his comments of Leon's first game 11 years ago and refuses to ever recognise when Leon plays well.
Freaking egotistical muppet.

well said. His fake tan matches his personality. As for Leon, I think the position down back allows him to get his hands on the ball. He cant be played like last year where he spent 2 hours chasing guys around. He's a player who wants to show his skills off and if he cant do it, his loses confidence over the season.

The twin move of Leon and Shaw gives so much flexibility....i love it.

Leon was really good today, won a lot of one on one's and read the ball off the boot better than the forwards a couple of times. I think Jetta got a lot of ball up the ground if Leon was directly matched to him then let him run that far up.

He needs to fix his decision making with the ball and excute his kicking out of the defensive 50 but a really good game. Get Reidy to show him how to drill a bullet from the back end.

During the final seconds of the third quarter he held up the ball very well and then kicked a precise kick to someone on the wing under immense pressure in the backline. I think he has the accuracy to drill excellent kicks (he did a few in the first quarter with Cloke and in the last quarter with Steele).

I think his 1 on 1 contest in the backline with Jetta where he beat him but kicked it out on the full was just a bad error on his part, and I think people are focusing too much on that single play. I'd more blame L. Brown and Reid for not beating Hille 2v1 in a contested mark.

Yeah he does have the ability, I should've said more often. He made some other simple mistakes eg first quarter not putting it on the boot quicker and kicked it two meters to an Essendon player and when he tried to take on Jetta and got caught. If he can iron out those errors then he will be a major weapon. I really respect him for reinventing himself again and his selflessness for the team.

Yeah I agree if he can iron out those faults in his game he can become a very good weapon. Still its only early, its really the first game since the NAB that he has been given a full game to show his true talent in defense. If he can get some consistency in the coming weeks with similar game performances then I will be very happy.

The thing with Leon is that he's so ingrained as a forward his instinct is to move through the traffic, whereas someone like Heath Shaw will grab and run around the traffic. So that'll take some time to iron out of his game so you'd expect him to get tackled a few times on the instinctive play, but not to worry.
Importantly, his instinct as a forward means he doesn't use his hands against his opponent in 1 on 1's, but instead pushes with the hip so he's not really going to give any of those soft free kicks up.
I think people have pretty short memories of how devastating he was through the midfield in 2008 and 2009.

It was a very encouraging game from Leon, I hope he can back it up and reinvent himself as a consistent player for us. I do think the game style suited him but you can't take away from the contested 1 on 1 wins he had. I did notice he trained during the week with shorts on so it's looking like he's fit again (seems to wear pants when he's not) so perhaps it's not so much a confidence thing and more of a physical thing that effects his games.

Interesting insight into his implied injury.

Last year he was constantly trying to work through soft tissue problems, but won't use it as an excuse.

''I had a few niggles last year, but I don't want to make any excuses about last year.

''This year I am working into fitness. I missed the first few games and Round 1, and it took me a bit to get back in, but two games in a row now, I am working hard on the track, and my fitness will only get better.''

Small part of a good story on him giving away his premiership medallion. Really hoping he gets a chance to snag another one. :D
