Can anyone explain to me what influences network stability?

I need constant access to our internal (and sometimes external) network. Yet we have an outage at least once a day, for between 2 and 30 minutes.

Does this sound excessive? Why is this happening?

Cheers,
Sbagman.

It is excessive. Some of our staff need access to our network all the time and in the past week it has only dropped out once. Depends if the problem is specific to you or more wide spread

network instability is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the network. It is the eventuality of an anomaly, and which has to be eliminated to attain a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden to sedulously avoid it, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control.

Concordantly, while your first question maybe the most pertinent you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant

Got a spare month? It won't take that long to explain it, just for you to be awake long enough to hear it and take it in.

Yes it is excessive - on most networks. However from my experience academic networks seem to have much higher downtime than other workplaces - probably because you just can't trust students.

As to what causes it - there are many different causes, depending on the network equipment, the computers that access it, the software on the computers, the type of network etc
