I think it has been coverred in another thread. But Witts can decline our offer of a rookie list (which would include poor play and a limited outlook on a first year berth), I would assume we will have to offer him a senior list and I would be very happy if we did.

He can also decline our offer of a senior list to wage his bets on making it to a sydney club, but I highly doubt he would given he has basically trained with the Pies all year.

Assuming Witts declines a rookie list offer by Collingwood, what pick are we required to use to secure him in The National draft?

Is it our last live pick in the draft?

I saw Witts training in the gym at Westpac a couple of weeks ago with Anthony Rocca. He made Rocca look like a dwarf. They started mucking around and Witts threw Pebbles around like a rag doll. He is a man mountain. Not the usual Collingwood big man. Don't worry he will be at the club next year.

Thats right.

The number of the pick isn't important - it could be 150 in the draft - it's the list spot that is valuable.

It would depend I think on how aggressive we are delisting and trading players whether we would have a spot available for Witts on the senior list.

I'm sceptical we will have the room but i'd definitely find it if it were the difference between keeping him or not.

I've got no doubts that he already feels he is a part of this club. I remember watching his game at Kardinia Park in the VFL at the end of the season. Ceglar got pushed into the post when he was at full tilt and off balance, a really dirty shove by the Geelong player. It knocked the shit out of him and he never returned to the game. Witts was the only one in the forward 50 and picked two big Geelong players by himself. You could tell he cared. I don't think we will lose him to anyone else thats for sure.

Not since Travis Cloke.
I'll be pretty happy if he becomes anything like Travis Cloke but I'm hoping, and not too farfetched, that he could go further.

Yep from what I've seen on CTV he's really well taken care of at the club and they spend a lot of time with him. Most likely to ensure he chooses the club.

I love the expectations on this kid, nah, being as good as the best power forward in the league isn't good enough, we want more.:p

By this time next year, surely he will have been the first player ever, to win the Rising Star award, poll in the top 10 in the Brownlow and be the number 1 ruck in a premiership team, all in his debut year at an AFL club.:p

Seriously though, the sky is the limit with him, we just need to ensure we don't push him too hard too early, I'd love to see him on the senior list, playing anywhere between 5-10 senior games in 2012, and then becoming part of the senior group in 2013.:)

You've got to be shitting me!? Top 10 in the Brownlow? You're seriously underrating this kid.

As I said, it's all about limiting expectations, don't worry, he'll win the Brownlow, just not till his second year.;)

Apparently not:p I'm gonna go have breakfast and a coffee!

Haha not as 'quick' as normal this morning, Quicky. ;)
I'm looking forward to Witts developing into a quality ruckman. Would be nice to get some sort of leap into him. Would be unstoppable if he could jump.

I am pretty certain he will end up being a mix of Cloke and Buddy when playing forward, and a mix of Sandilands and Cox when playing in the ruck.

And pretty similar in style to Gary Ablett when he spends time as a centre-square midfielder (i.e. resting from the ruck)

Surely at 208 he just has to stand at ff as we bash it long and high.

Arms up, easy mark and goal.

Would like to see 5-10 games in the 1s
