Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Hey Ross...any news on whats next for Big Ant, given that your work on this title must be getting smaller by the day.

Has there been any discussions on the next project with anyone - maybe Rugby Union (given that the engine would be very similar to rugby league)?

Or will it be a well earned rest...? :thumbsu:
AFL 2012 and the Cricket game I'd say

AFL 2012 and the Cricket game I'd say

Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, the success of AFL 2011 is so big and it gets that many good reviews that AFL 2012 just gets refined, polished and a couple of features and is maybe released in October/November....would be awesome.

AFL 2012 and the Cricket game I'd say

I'd say that once the new afl game is finished Released and completely done with.

Ross and his team will sit down have a cold one and toast to a job well done.

Then I'd say take a couple of months off and start on the next big project ( hopefuly afl 2012).

Which shouldn't take as long as this version because it isn't being built from scratch and they already have a solid foundation to wot off of.

Game shouldn't be released that soon, give it a good 10ish months to work on after release, release about same time next year

What...why? No new lists, barely enough time to nut out any bugs new features would bring and all before the Draft even starts? Would be a terrible move.

I don't think they have the luxury of taking 'months off', they're not making millions upon millions of dollars that a complete stopping off the company could happen for a week let alone a couple of months. Hell, not even the companies that DO make that much ever take months off even. They will be right onto their next project while finishing off the cricket game, their next project will most likely be a follow up to RLL or whatever other random IP they get/create.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

It's going to be a tough decision for BigAnt in terms of sequels. It will be costly to do a full game release, so DLC would seem to be the way to go. But I remember reading that less than 50% of Australian gamers are online. I think that following the way Red Dead Zombies was done would be perfect, unless there are restrictions to what modifications can be made via DLC. Allowing you to download the update via DLC or, for the people who don't have internet access, you can buy it on a disc at a retailer. That way BigAnt can reach the whole market while keeping costs down.

I meant take a month or two off of the afl video game series not take a couple of months off and shut up shop.

You're wrong there mate, Ross has stated that BigAnt know they will record a loss on this release, but they will make up for it in later releases.

Hey guys, in Ross' very first avatar, was the player in it Adam Goodes? I cannot remember thanks!

I'm aware Ross was expecting a loss for this first game, but BigAnt are only small and just because you are expecting a loss, doesn't mean you'll be able to handle it any better, if indeed it is a big enough loss to cause problems. EA are considering (maybe already decided?) to head down the DLC path with FIFA.

An optimistic outlook to cop the loss is fine, but it all boils down to money and a DLC method could be a feasible option, so long as everything that BigAnt want to add is able to be added, that is.

Eh, it's much of a muchness. Retail is a lot easier to market the game while DLC (of the note you're talking of) is really only something that you can do for established games and markets.

Why add big selling point features through DLC when it could bring in those extra needed customers at retail.

Also comes down to a price point. They can't price DLC too highly otherwise it doesn't sell, but if they price it lowish then they might as well be packaging a new game out there at retail and be getting as much bang for their buck as possible.

Right now, the first iteration is what costs the most. Having to build a game from scratch over 2-3 years and then bring it out is what drains the most funds. From here all they need to do is constantly tweak and improve the engine and add features, all of this stuff is far lower cost than anything they will have done in the previous 2-3 years getting the game up and running to where it is now.

Fair enough, but if they're going to be doing something, might as well continue to make the game bigger and better with an extra couple of months instead of maybe 10 increase it to 12 for extra polish and feature stuffing!

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

By doing a pure DLC sequel, you suddenly lose 50% of your potential sales base due to the people who don't have their consoles online

Until they have dowload kiosks at retailers where you can purchase the DLC and load it onto a flashdrive and then install to your console, big DLC like that is just not feasible

Not having a go at you here, but I did mention releasing the DLC on a disc aswell, like the Fallout/Borderlands/Red Dead etc. so as to avoid excluding those who don't have online.

The DLC could be a biannual thing, if there's a hefty change do a full release, otherwise if it's minor, just do the DLC rather than fretting about new features or adding barely anything in a full release. Maybe even packaging the previous year's game with DLC in order to move some old copies, so it's also enticing for newcomers.

Were the DLC only discs for various games selling well?

You probably did, i just missed it

They didn't sell too well though. I know we have a shitload of the Fallout 3 ones left at the store, and they've been out for years

Just so I can understand the whole cost issue of DLC vs Full Release, for the retailer and BigAnt to get an acceptable profit, what would a DLC on disc cost for the consumer?

IMO the Fallout DLC was overpriced.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

If there was to be some sort of dlc for the new afl game.

What are people thoughts on what the dlc will or would be ?

Ie: roster updates, uniform updates( sponsors, logos etc.....) or other.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

I think the kicking should be like NBA. On NBA, you would hold the right analog stick down until the player hits the top of his Jump.

I think something similar would be great. Eg. Pull the right stick down until the player is about the drop the ball on their foot?

Miss time it and it's a mongrel.

All of the above with some minor gameplay tweaks. If there are updates to gameplay that are too substantial to be added via DLC, then a full release would be required, at least this is how I would imagine such a method would be done.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

If there is one feature that needs to be in the game it is the snap along the ground that dribbles around the corner ie Daniel motlop style.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

"Controls : there are Torpedo's, stabs, snap kicks etc.. taps in the ruck, punches - mongrels will generally happen when you do something that doesn't make sense given the position on field, power of the kick, on the run (or not) "

The FAQ, read it.
