I'm interested to see how well holding the ball, ball up and play on are called in the game. A lot of the time it felt random in previous AFL games.

It will not be random - hate that!!

AFL 2007 was disgraceful in the holding the ball rules. Nearly every tackle to the cpu either knocks the ball free, or results in a ball up. Yet every time i get tackled it never gets knocked free, and nearly always results in htb regardless of how long i've had it. My favourite is when the ruck taps it down my rover's throat, and i'm tackled as soon as it hits my hands and am pinged. So frustratingly skewed towards the cpu. Good to hear that this time it's supposed to be fair.

Can't wait for the AFL game and it is sounding better with each bit of new info - thanks Ross.

Do we have a date for the cricket release....? Is time running out for a pre-xmas release, given the time required for the launch, media release etc...? I would love to see some screen shots or more info if possible.

Sorry to hijack the AFL forum.

More news on Cricket soon - likely February.

Hey Ross,
Does Big Ant Studios have cctv within the facility?

If it does, would there ever be a possibility that the footage may be 'leaked' onto the net showing the designers playing the game?

Gotta try something to satisfy my urge

hey ross just a few questions about the game, just let me know if you cant answer.

with the quarter updates will it include goal scorers and players with most possessions?

also how you mentioned there will be training that you choose in a different menu. does this mean that there will be no training drills between games throughout the season?

There sure is CCTV, but Big Ant faced them all away from the screens for this very reason

A long time ago in this forum this was reported by IR as being an offical bug where the timer for holding the ball is controlled by the length of the quarters. So 20 mins is apparently the normal length of time intended by the devs (say two seconds to get rid of the ball), 5 minutes is a quarter of that time (so .50 secs) while the three minute quarters are almost instantaneous.

Just guessing at the actual times - easy enough to check if this is true or not.

Wooo! I found that bug!!! That was after the holding the ball suggestion to have the randomness of the decision to be inversely related to the time that a player has possession of the ball. Seemed the best way to make it like real-life... Shame the bug stuffed it up.

Yeah I remember that being reported too, just seems like the kind of bug that you'd think a tester would come across. Considering most of us who bought the game discovered it within minutes. I swear IR Gurus testing process was "Does it boot? Good. Ship it."

haha yeah, i remember one game where at every center bounce every player from both teams would run to one goal square and jig around non stop,

Thats not a bug thats a feature

I have a quick question for you Ross, with the commentary i assume the commentators with make references to the 2 teams playing, i.e. "West Coast need to work on their disposal" or "another goal for the Eagles" etc. or something along those lines, how is this going to work for the custom teams, will they just refer to them as "custom team" or have you had the commentators record a pre-set list of towns/suburbs and nicknames?

I think the best way is when they have a list of cities which the commentators refer to you by and you get to choose your own nickname (so you can be creative/childish).

I must say that since it was announced that this game is going to be released in 2011 my interest died down a bit but the year is coming to a close so I am starting to get my interest back. I am definitely going to buy the game and am sure that I will love it but I hope its released in March and not June. Can't wait to play it.

Can't stop thinking about a possible Be A Pro mode... so much potential fun.

The other thing I've been thinking of, and I know it's a small thing, is the Premiership celebration. Ross if you're reading this, I know you can't tell me anything :p but can you please tell me it's better than running around the ground and taking a perfectly still picture with the cup in front of the opposition cheer squad like in 03-07?

(And I know it's a different developer so don't point that out :p)

As I said before, a good championship celebration is a great addition to any game, and serves as the icing on the cake :D

In RLL, when you win the premiership, you see a 3d model of the trophy on your screen and thats it.

After playing RLL to death now, hard is too easy (48-0 wins). The only thing I enjoy playing in it now is SOO, as the maggot queenslanders are just so hard to beat consistantly.

Im glad the AFL games been delayed, if it means we get little extras to give it a bit more longevity.

Ross, are these the extra sort of things you are focusing on, things to make the game more replayable, or is it more player models and lists for new players?

I wanna see your teams name added onto a 'history premiership list'.

2008 - Hawthorn Defeated Geelong
2009 - Geelong Defeated St. Kilda
2010 - Collingwood Defeated St. Kilda
2011 - Richmond (Player 1) Defeated Collingwood...

and so on...

It doesn't take a lot to add this feature in. Also add in runner up, previous year performances, brownlows, colemans, on and on, its a really neat historical statistic thing to put in place.
