Should just have a lotto type draw every August to determine what finals system will be used. Floating finals system. ha ha
So before then the clubs do not know how many teams get to qualify for finals.
Could be final 5, final 7, final 8 or final 10.
If the draw comes out with 10 teams, that is how many qualify and whilst the top 6 sides have a rest after round 23 there are two wildcard finals play offs of 7 v 10 and 8 v 9.
The two winners stay on for the now traditional final 8 the following 4 weeks of finals series.
If it is a final 5 or 7 the minor premier gets a bye first week like traditional final 5 system and there is only one preliminary final.

The players already complain that the season is too long. Yeah I reckon this idea will take off.

Huh.. what do you mean? Top side does have a home final. Stop wasting everyone's time with stupid threads.

What would be the point of finishing higher on the ladder if you had to play home and away anyway?
Might be a solution to the permanant advantage that Victorian teams have by playing MCG home state GF one week then the interstate side ( if there is one) playing in their home state for the second GF the following week. Highest aggregate score of the two GF's wins the flag.
Haha, imagine Sydney were 5th and St Kilda were 8th? We would have to watch that yawnfest over 2 states and god knows how many games.
No we shouldn't do that as teams can only play once a week, not 3 times a week like NBA etc.
