How long before we start seeing sponsors across the chest or stomach areas of jumpers like the NRL?

I get that Covid and the associated restrictions did no one any favours in terms of their bottom line. Had this happened in the 1990s, then we would've seen more mergers take place.

But surely in 2022 (heading into 2023) clubs aren't that desperate for $$$.
I can't see how it will work in AFL given there are quite a few clubs with major design elements on that area of the jumpers.

They are though...
When average players ask for ridiculous money, something has to give

Every club will look for innovative ways to earn a buck, and not for the better
You see the big ornage 'Bankwest' rectangle on Fremantle's jumper? Imagine that strewn across the front. Bloody hideous.

As above, Sturt with their big red sponsor logo on the front of their light-blue jumper. Poison.

I'm actually reasonably confident that the AFL would have no interest in this happening. Which surprises me.

The back neckline is really not a premium design space, and the "opening up" of the collar slot to non-apparel brands doesn't alter the existing visual balance. So I think a suggestion of centre chest sponsors would be seen as much more than just another tweak.

Exactly. It would look awful on all but it would “work” with teams that have stripes like Collingwood or Hawthorn.

You’d lose all recognition with sides like Carlton or Brisbane though.

Didn't deter Claremont.

I won't read too much into an illustration, but still...

...I wonder if the gold collar edge and the wing shape are in any way accurate.
That's castores design template. I'd say the eagles just re-used it since it's only the back
