What do we think of the mine Finiss is now trotting out at every opportunity that we are 'the people's club'?
Personally i don't like it, as AFL is tribal and people have their own teams, other supporters won't give a stuff about us. I also think it implies we are working class ala Bulldogs, and we all know how their finances are.

Not sure how he can really claim that to be honest, but the club has improved its connection with the supporter base a lot, and his arrival has certainly lifted the club's fortunes so I'm prepared to let him go on this one.

You're missing the point. It's referring to how they are trying to be socially inclusive (pride game and march) and is about the club trying to "reconnect with supporters by being open and inclusive and taking the club to them in fresh and exciting ways.”

Brian not sure where your comments fits in the sponsorship thread, but nevertheless, Finiss is as Periphery so ably said, is being inclusive with his language and actions. The engagement with the community, the sense of involvement, events at multiple centres up and down our supporter area, his stressing of community with staff and ex players and the improved engagement with current and prospective sponsors is sensational.

Collingwood tries a different form of community, with its us and against the world, which appeals to their supporter base. He rightly has identified that we are not Collingwood and that there is a great untapped supporter base waiting to be engaged with. The message is now consistent across administration, corporate affairs, membership etc and they obviously have an events and operations program mapped out well, well in advance.

This isn't an ad hoc, here's a good idea, lets do it tomorrow. They have under Finnis's direction a goal of inclusion, engagement and openness. I am not in Melbourne and can't attend events etc, but I am loving that the club have completely changed their approach, from the old Stalinist secret society under Lyon, to a professional, open, modern and relevant organisation.

I don't know about SEEK's motivations to join as a sponsor, but do believe that the new professionalism and community engagement were the MAJOR attractions for the Saints being chosen as the sponsor by DARE.

I have always admired the smooth, slick professionalism of a number of other clubs. Finally we are seeing that at St Kilda. If Finnis is proposing engagement with the Gay and Lesbian community, refugees, new arrivals to Australia, ex circus jugglers, surfers, vegetarian eco warriors etc etc, this is all a HUGE plus. We know that as a team, we win premierships, by the combined actions and one percenters of the whole team. Finally we have an administration, that is also dedicated to excellence and having wins with a huge number of one percenters.

Great post

If you look hard enough you will find the answers....

Hehehehe let's not give it away. Let the announcement come out with a bang!
Hmm was that too obvious?
Yes, that was too obvious. You call that subtle? I'LL SHOW you subtle! :p
However did we manage to hire all these people in our current admin? They're the best team we've ever had!

Fairfax has the inside word over the sponsorship rumours, apparently. Which journo? Caro? Sammy Lane? Baumy?

THAT'S how you do subtle.

... I'll show myself out...

Great post

Agree

Theme is we are a team onfield and now engaging with our supporters club is a developing team off field as well.

Just need to get bayside supporters to become "members" .club has been really a sleeping giant for years.

Lots of supporters ...not " members "

I love it. We need to be welcoming warm and friendly. Screw the opposition though

No sponsor on shorts.

Why can't we just plonk Seek there? Or Wellington or whoever.

If St Kilda give value as a sponsorship proposition, they are more likely to renew and continue their support.
Or maybe (and this is what I'm hoping) we are still chasing a 2nd major sponsor? We also have room for another sponsor on the back of the jumper as well.

Yes this is what I am hoping as well.

Seek for instance is only a short term deal though. We need to work to entice them to continue supporting the club. If an ideal situation happens and we get a another major sponsor pronto, they can be shifted back. If we don't, then they would hopefully be more inclined to renew the sponsorship as they have gotten something out of it.

Yeah, I reckon we're waiting for another sponsor to knock Ledified down to the shorts.

But given that we'd need to get new jumpers and shorts made up if/when that happens, we might as well have another sponsor taking that space for now.
