Apparently they wanted a jumper that people would buy just because it looked cool without knowing what team it was related to ... and yeah that's the vibe I'm getting so far, just nondescript men's workout apparel. As if Oakley made a footy jumper.

I don't want to be too negative though, it's still likely going to be a sizeable upgrade on their current branding.

All the promos pointed to a double red.

Issue is the reds they've used don't contrast enough.

The stupid neck tag and persisting with blue when it clearly doesn't fit, never really did, is another shoehorn.

The sand yellow was a good idea and now it'll just be a two-tone red with a distracting yellow number to throw the balance off the whole thing.

What's the theory behind all of it? like those ultra close up NASA images of the burning sun? but then the logo is all about a stylised, more relaxed and 2000s beachwear feeling setting-sun-on-the-beach vibe.

It is all over the place and why the 'suns' moniker wasn't especially great. what sun are you talking about? there's so much you can do with it but you have to commit to one part of it. they're just using everything they possibly can and it's looking messy.

So...

I'm not one to crap on other peoples work, but gee. It looks like a training top.
Even the number in yellow on the back is a faux pas.

It's incongruous with the front, and just makes the whole thing look even more like it was made by a child.

What other guernsey in the AFL uses a colour for the numbers that doesn't appear anywhere on the front of the guernsey.

It just looks ridiculous

What about if you use the royal blue on the cuffs on the arms and the neck, and use it for the number on the back?

I mean nothing is going to work with that shit logo, but I'd be interested to see how much that changed the complexion of the guernsey

Essendon uses white numbers. Tigers have at times used white numbers, so not uncommon.

What other colour could they use for numbers? Had to be yellow/gold - white would just look like Sydney, and at least gold IS one of their colours.

I understand having issues with the lack of gold on the front, but there's not an issue with the gold numbers themselves

Richmond/Essendon/North Melbourne?

I think the logo's fine if the updated guernsey is a win and I think the guernsey would benefit from tweaking the shades of the colours and just going with a traditional style.

Remember how Port Adelaide faffed around with "modern" guernsey designs and then a 10 year old came up with the genius idea of putting Port's colours in the SA State of Origin design and everyone agreed that it was awesome? I think the astute move would be to do something like that. But looks like they'll try to do something "innovative" with it.
