Edwards had never scored a 100 at any level of grade cricket prior to NSW debut if my memory is serving me correctly.
Michael Clarke hadn't made a 1st Grade century before debuting for NSW

Making a call to fast-track a player is fine, providing you're right on their ability level

Feels like Aus/NSW cricket has been trying to pluck the next big thing from U19s for a while (Jake Doran?) but keeps coming up empty

Yep and if it's not happening after a season or two, be strong enough to make the call to send them back down for a season and make them re-earn their stripes.

Obviously the definition of "not happening" is very subjective and also depends on what the competition for that spot is like... But Sangha's batting average in the mid 20's surely qualifies as not happening to any cricket judge...

30 is your prime as a cricketer. People look way too young when it comes to cricket.

Although given this is the Next Generation thread you're probably looking at Tanveer Sangha, Will Sutherland, Lance Morris. Anyone younger than that is probably atleast 4 years from being international cricketers (which won't really exist by then anyway).
2027 World Cup in South Africa and adjoining nations

Would mean Johnson, Richardson etc would be 31/32. If they are in the ODI team they'll be in, interested to see where people rank the next 5 quicks under say 25 (arbitrary age but point remains, young)

It might not be that group specifically but it's going to be one hell of a transitional period the next couple of years, and not a good one.

Still reckon Trav Head will keep his pot though. He isn't that old.

I did forget about Sutgherland, good shout.. Feel we may see a real rise in bowling all rounders, especially in the shorter forms. Mitch Perry, Qld seem to always produce those types. Regarding quicks, WA always have at least 2 in the wings at any one type. Probably right that Richardson of the Jhye variety could still be around if fit.

You mean Mitch Perry, the Victorian red ball specialist?

look, Im unsure on his white ball form but he is one to keep an eye on as a bowler who can hold the bat

edit. yep, red ball specialist it seems
Yeah he's played two List A games for 13 overs, no wickets and an economy rate of over 7.

He's gonna be a decent shout for England though. Swings it both ways.

Big watch on Jack Clayton this summer. Starting to look the goods. 100 last match and unfortunately falling just short of another on 96 today. Simple, no fuss technique, plays all the shots, rarely gets bogged down like quite a few of the other promising players around the same age and doesn't appear to have any obvious weaknesses aside from been a bit of a nervy starter at times. Good signs.

Yeah I haven't seen him bat but he is looking consistent. How old is he?

Do people realize that there is a T20 WC in June next year that nations will be planning their best 15s for. This is Australia's first opportunity to give some of their players a run in preparation for this.
I am sure India may play a B side for this, to give players a rest and see who may fit in the squad for next year

See this series is what annoys me...its just a cash crab by the BCCI

seriously what's the point the ACB should say f**k that and send over a u19 development squad to play
T20 WC next year.

What's the point playing Smith, Wade etc?

Guys, like Caleb Jewell, Beau Webster, Philippe and Hardie should be there.

Our selectors are so bloody conservative.

Smith has almost confirmed a deal to play Major League Cricket next year, which will take place just after the WC. So I think he'd be looking to play.
And next year should be the last of the big ICC tournaments for a lot of the current squad

It doesn't really matter what Smith wants.
This was a good chance to look at some new faces.

I'm just talking about intentions.
Personally, I would have liked to see more fresh faces in the ODI WC squad.

How seriously will Australia take the Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan?

Tuggs

I see this series immediately after a World Cup as a complete waste of time and IMHO this will have no bearing on how we choose our t20 team for next year .

Its just a cash grab for me by the BCCI

yes I want to see the Aussies go well in all formats they play but I think this is just too much cricket...would rather the lads home playing in the domestic scene big bash

I think with Wade being anointed captain for the series just shows us how serious we are treating it
